They tell me the last few we've sent over have been pulled (either by ebay or seller) prior to auction end. Maybe word is slowly starting to spread that plod are watching Ebay.

So... they are getting pulled, not investigated then?

I get the impression that the VRN/VIN is flagged at the DVLA. So when the V5 changes hands and a change of owner application comes in, this is the trigger for AVCIS to make further investigations.

No sale equals no change in ownership application. Still, on the plus side, it doesn't change the fact that the VRN/VIN is now flagged so will show up in the future if a later sale is made either through Ebay or other route.

Perhaps not an instant result but at least some residual marker has been set.

So do people buy these to change the ID of a stollen landy to a purchased rotten one? :s

I would imagine there are a couple of reasons - New identity, passing off a LR as older than it is for the purposes of not paying road tax, and probably other reasons.

Seems like allot of effort to avoid paying road tax and a dick move ! but surely for the £300 people are charging would it be worth it?

Go to any Land Rover show and look at some of the modded defenders, you'll find at least 5 that are on a Series pre-1973 reg for the free tax.

Free tax can save somewhere over £200 a year, so, paying £500 for an ID, you'll make your money back in 3 years.

For the 88" , could it not just be a 88 with a 90 front on it? Or defiantly a 90 with a 88 chassis number and v5c?

@ Bencorkill - as I understand it, for it to retain its age related plate, then to start with, it must retain the original UNMODIFIED (as in should be on leaf springs not coils) chassis or a like for like new chassis with evidence of purchase etc. then there's further rules about other key original components etc.... This one looks to fall at the first hurdle. To be fair though, these rules appear to have been brought in a sometime in the 90's (can't recall when, somebody will know), so if it was done prior to that (with evidence etc) then that could be okay.
