Chassis differences....

I've just bought a series 2 which is very much a project. Are there any major differences between the chassis of 2's, 2a's and 3's cos the one it comes with is very much goosed

and I'll keep an eye on eBay for a replacement.

To keep it legal you need to replace with a new one.
Bell housing cross member is different on a series 2 compared to series 3 has a bigger web support at sides.

Given the amount of series 3's masquerading as 2's or 2a's I'm not overly worried to be honest as as James said if the dumb irons have been welded then no one is the wiser anyway

A ladder chassis is just that. Just don’t be tempted by coils. Tiz a slippery slope.

Don't worry it'll never see coils or a tdi

The Series 2 chassis has some gussets on the gearbox cross member.

If you intend to fit a full synchro series 3 box, one of these will need to be cut away to make room for the clutch slave cylinder.
