Series 3 Chassis Swap - a slow start

A few more things done today.
Finalised the brake pupe and clipped it on the chassis with some neat little p-clips, drilled and tapped the chassis for 2ba screws for the clips, and sheathed any potential rub points with a bit of plastic tube. No more brake pipe until the bulkhead with the master cylinder is on!

The fun and games today have been swapping the bottom damper mounts over from one to the other.
The shaft for the damper on the new chassis are quite thin from rust, while those on the old Landy are quite good, despite everything else being crusty!
Managed to swap the rears over, but what a ball ache to undo the u-bolt nuts on the old one! And then the damned axle dropped right off, and it was a sod to get everythjng back up and tightened to be safe again. In the end I only managed the two rears.

In the process, the very manky exhaust tailpipe fell off and bust up my shin - picking up a 2nd hand one tomorrow though so I can bin the crusty one.
No pics today, just aching and sore - need to get fit again!

Off out shooting soon though, hope I don't fall asleep and miss the bunnies!

Well, I needn't have bothered the bunnies last night. My shooting partner got one but, thanks to a vixen and her cub, a fallow deer, masses of owls and some idiot leaning on his car horn at 01:00, I didnt see a single damned rabbit! Still, it was worth the trip to watch the wildlife.

Onto the Landy....

A trip out scored me a good 2nd hand exhaust for a tenner, bottom door seals for 25 and a pair of mudflaps for a fiver - not half bad!
Had a good look at the chaps S2a and he has done a fab job of the restoration. If anything it's too good, it's too nice to get dirty! But as an original Station Wagon it was worth doing well, he managed to save the trim and a lot of the body, he has done a fab job.

A bit of spannering and welding sees the offside bulkhead foot replaced, another of the vottom damper mounts sorted out and the new exhaust loosely hung on the chassis.

Slow but steady progress over the week. Limited now to a few hours in the evening, picking and packing in a warehouse now to get some pennies coming in.

The drivers footwell is nearly done. Clutch pedal cleaned up and painted and the master cleaned and flushed. It's all in pretty good nick, nothing really needs doing.
Brake pedal is off too, servo cleaned up and painted, next up is the pedal and master. Offside sill bar cleaned up and 1st coat of paint on, needs another coat tonight. Should get the seal on tomorrow evening. Oh and swapped the rear grab handles across too. Getting close now to the big stuff, but still no clue where the job will be done!

More progress!

Drivers footwell and bulkhead foot are finally welded in. A little more dressing to do, but its only cosmetic.
Turns out that the new footwell, despite being quite an expensive one, wasn't bent up square. It needed a bit or modifying to get the inside edge to match up so that the gearbox to bulkhead cowel would fit, and the floor also. But it's in.


The flap disc bit me in the process, but I got off very lightly, no real damage done and it cauterised the skin so very little blood - result!

Brake pedal box, servo and master are all spruced up and back together, as is the handbrake lever.

I was hoping to get the props off today too, but with my Dad grinding and welding where I wanted either my head or my gentleman's vegetable area to be to get to the prop flanges, I didnt think it was such a good idea!

Unfortunately it looks like the plan to do the swap with my mate at his place might be falling through - still no idea of when it might be. Dad has got a backup plan though. A mate of a friend of his has a workshop with an engine crane. We will be able to rent some space there for a week or two. That would be rather good, but I would still prefer to do it with my buddy as we work well together.

Anyways, a few more steps forward have been taken.
