    L322 TD6 transmission adventures

This one's a GM 5L40-E, but might be doable. Access isn't great. Last time I fitted the method worked well, but this time it took hours to align - heavy and awkward without a hydraulic ramp!

    L322 TD6 transmission adventures

Not sure that's possible as the back of the flywheel is pretty inaccessible once transmission is on. There is one spot to get a socket / bolt in but you need to turn the flywheel by hand to then locate the other two bolts as far as I could see. (you can't do that once covered by bellhousing?)

    L322 TD6 transmission adventures

Thanks Phil. It wasn't pulled in with bolts except a little at the top due to weight of transmission pulling away, but there was about 3 hours of lifting, wriggling and locating/relocating before I could pull/push into place. I guess it is probable that there's an issue there and it means it is...

    L322 TD6 transmission adventures

Thanks Datatek. I did think the pump should be self priming, but cannot see how it is possible to locate incorrectly. The TC attaches to flywheel on 3 fixings and has a locator on the back that sits in a recess in the flywheel to centre it. The input shaft of the transmission locates in the...

    L322 TD6 transmission adventures

Ok, so I'll apologise in advance for the long thread, but some background may be relevant... Plus if you're bored, it will give you a laugh and make your day seem a whole lot better! I purchased my 2005 TD6 Vogue SE in June 21 having pondered for a long while. Diesel went against the grain a...

    L322 GM5L40 filler/drain plug part numbers?

Same part ref on both GM and ZF transmissions? Different LR part numbers: https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/media/catalog/product/cache/45f00df175d6f712349c9c46eeed3926/a/0/a010050106_1.png. And https://www.allbrit.de/epc.cfm?CAR=TLH&SPRACHE=EN&PAGE=3070110B-TAWF21P

    L322 GM5L40 filler/drain plug part numbers?

Ah, that's the one that's out of stock everywhere - typical... Might have to find something to fit.

7E380 is for the later 6 speed ZF box I think? (LR000876)

    L322 GM5L40 filler/drain plug part numbers?

I think it looks like the right one, but appears to be either obsolete or part number superceded. Will try calling a few parts suppliers now I have a possible number. Thanks.

Thanks - good spot. Now to try and find one in stock :)

    L322 GM5L40 filler/drain plug part numbers?

Thanks, the drain is but the filler seems to be about 17mm - could be imperial. I couldn't feel anything on the face of the nut but will take another look...

    L322 GM5L40 filler/drain plug part numbers?

So, after a few years absence I'm back! Having retired the P38 for a few years on the drive, I had switched back to a Jag in 2017 with a £350 XJ8 4.0. Due to a long MoT list on suspension however last September, I sold this for parts for the same as I paid and reverted to the Daihatsu Sportrak...

    P38A Occasional 'clunk' on acceleration?

Yes, appear to be - clunk sounds bigger than that too. Not yet, but on the list - planning to strip and overhaul the rear axle next weekend so will check at the same time.

    P38A Occasional 'clunk' on acceleration?

Thanks both. It did sound towards the rear, so rear axle is probably first place to look, but appreciate sounds are not always where you think. I hope it's not transfer box - I have a spare now, but getting bored taking that out... :( (And it's a PITA on a driveway with just axle stands and...

    P38A Occasional 'clunk' on acceleration?

A while since I've been here as work and various other aspects of life and a couple of family bereavements have consumed free time, but getting straight again now I think. I have a 1997 P38 4.6V8 with LPG. Had a few years with no major issues, but about 3 years ago started to get long...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Put on ramps ready to change gearbox for 2nd time. First time she's moved since February :( There's going to be quite a bit to fix I suspect, but missed the old girl so time to fix... Manifolds, headlining, EAS valve block, sunroof... :)

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Gutted! That's really low by any standard - bad enough when they nick em and torch the evidence, but to just torch it out of shear malice...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Been off the road for 3 weeks as a trip to N.Wales towing the boat resulted in a trip back on an AA flatbed! No, not the iffy gearbox, but front propshaft let go. :( Thankfully not too much damage, but stoved in the transmission sump, lost all the oil and bust the gear linkage. Took this as...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Nor have I, but that was pre-P38! I don't have diagnostics if anything decides not to work and there seems to be many threads on issues after a flat or disconnected battery that made me nervous... What if she reverts to a previous backup personality?:D Previous owner has seemingly...
