Thanks guys. That seems to make sense. Will check that out. Much Appreciated.

    Clutch pernanently ON

If the transmission broke, you would not be able to moved the gear stick between gears with the car running (and clutch peddle not even pressed). When you do this, there is NO reaction from the gears (similar to the clutch peddle being pressed continually) Kevin

    Clutch pernanently ON

Yep, the pedal goes up and down with a feeling that fluid is fine. It's like the slave is 'stuck' in extended mode effectively keeping the clutch open. I'm reading the manual as I'm not overly familiar with clutches. Have a few Freelanders so will compare movements as i progress.

    Clutch pernanently ON

Freelander 1.8 2000: I checked and it's not the usual problem (I think). I was driving the car up and down the yard to try to free a stuck brake drum. Didn't work and did it manually in the end with loads of oil. Returned to car a month later and the clutch seems stuck ON. The pedal moves up...

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

Thanks guys very much. I'm going with the OEM cap as the fix as the quality/build/fit is chalk and cheese to the 'yellow' one. Learned my lesson there. Repeating above...my stupidity. But if you can't laugh at yourself..... I recently moved from Saab 900's (pre-93) to Freelanders cause i...

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

I think it's OK with a 'slight' worry. Reved it for nearly 10 minutes in the garage at 3500 revs. Nothing blew up, the bottom radiator hose got nice and hot BUT the temperature guage never went over 'just below' half way and the fans never came on. I read in another thread that the radiator is...

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

Been working on it slowly. 1) Pulled out the thermostat and it opened when boiled. No thermometer so couldn't check at what temperature but it opened wide and closed when cooling. It was the type that mounted on the radiator hose as opposed to the cylinder block. So fully refilled and bled...

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

Just saw 'fan sensor' faulty thought. Wouldn't the fact that the guage never went above middle before expansion cap 'take off', mean that the coolant tempature at the fan temperature sensor was also low. They are different sensors so unlikely to be both wrong.

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

I've been thinking about it. The fool did leave it for about 5 minutes at full revs. I was wondering why (at hte time) whereas most of the testers just reved the cars for a short period. I did loose the head (mine) for a while and had my test money returned. Irrespective, it shouldn't have...

    Expansion Cap Blew off !!!

Car is a 2000 1.8 petrol. Yesterday at the NCT (MOT), the guy locked on the accellerator at high revs to test emmisions and seemed to go away. After 4 minutes, the expansion cap overflowed and we had steam and coolant everywhere. Obviuosly i didn't pass and had to listen to "head gasket gone...

    Freelander gussling water

A simply question. Rosco mentioed above "My coolant level when the engine is hot only shows very little ( well below min ) but if I shut engine off and slowly release expansion tank cap it fills back up to max??? ". Understand that he has a leak somewhere, but why does that happen. Is it...
