has anybody had a fuel regulator give problems. my 3.9 has a very intermittent problem where it drops a couple of cylinders (well it's like a missing problem) and i get a strong smell of fuel in the cab. the problem lasts less than a minute and then will be fine for days so i am struggling to...

sounds like your radiator is blocked up. take it out and flush it with a hose and see if any crap comes out

those are flash, mines still on the bonnet

if all those fail, then try putting a jumper cable from batt pos to starter as sometimes the pos lead from batt to starter becomes resistive under heavy current draw. will measure ok on resistance test but try it. you should have solenoid clicking tho even if it's this.

I don't have any first hand experience with these carbs but have been told they are not as good for off road driving. Apparently holly carbs flood easier when on steep gradients whereas you could have efi on it's side and it will still run ok. Just my 5 cents worth.

i have "refreshed" a stage 1 and i can tell you that you won't want to add it up, it will scare you!!! good to see another 90 defender brought up to scratch, they are very scarce down under. all the best and thanks for an informative thread

Just read the whole post, really impressive but what part of "budget" project were you referring to?? Have you kept a tally of costs so far?

high low lever is in a good place for the unknowing to kick it into neutral with their foot at an inconvenient time.......
