"'Ere, can you give us a tow, mate?"

Quite so. If he's lucky, his battery won't have been strong enough to snap the con rods.

"'Ere, can you give us a tow, mate?"

Come to think of it, I had some policewoman once flag me down in my old Td5 to ask if she could borrow my trolley jack. She was speechless and disbelieving when I told here I didn't have one!

"'Ere, can you give us a tow, mate?"

If a bloke's with a bird, he's unlikely to want to accept help from another bloke either! A lot of young men won't even stop and ask for directions if they have a young woman with them.

"'Ere, can you give us a tow, mate?"

I've lost count of the times I've had someone materialise out of nowhere and whisper these sacred words into my delicate shell-like. I'd like to think it's because I have a friendly face and an outgoing, approachable personality. But before I congratulate myself too highly on my geniality, I...

Good description. Pity I can't find the vid as the creator is such a prolific uploader it would take a month of Sundays. Anyway, I get the general picture.

    More Work Needed!

I could upload a some pix if it would help, but since you can only feel wear in these things, I'm not sure how valuable a photo would be. I'm also wondering what these radius arms do on the front? I did a couple on a Jag a while ago but they were on the rear, to stop the axle tramping IIRC. I...

Defender stolen - Heading Elland then Liverpool

And this was all 6 years ago now. Just imagine how much worse the situation is today!

Anaconda, that's the livery I really wanted on mine. If I could have had one finished like yours I'd have changed my Will so I could be buried in it. You're a very lucky man.

    More Work Needed!

Someone's already carved out an access flap of about 8x8" under the rear floor carpet just above the diff by the look of it - and then pop-riveted it back into place. Funny thing to do: cutting a hole in the floor! I wonder if they've had this problem before..... So which is the biggest PITA to...

It's seeping out of the wheel centres and dripping down the outside of the wheel and tyre, so it was quite noticeable. Would this be hypoid axle oil from the diff?

    More Work Needed!

I was hoping these jobs were something that Buster would have covered in one of his instructionals, but it appears not. It wouldn't take me long to fab a hydraulic press up from some structural steel I have and a bottle jack, so that aspect doesn't faze me at all. The steering does feel a bit...

    More Work Needed!

As Marjon already knows, this is the classic 3.5 litre V8 model. You said hub seals and radius arms are dire, but I have no idea what's involved in replacing them. Is this a seriously big job?

    More Work Needed!

Hi all, I just took my recently acquired 1989 110 County in for a service and there's some stuff I don't understand the significance of (or price of getting fixed either!) I'm primarily a bodywork guy. Can anyone assist in explaining how dire these first 3 items requiring attention are please...

    Ignition Timing

I guess all old chains have some stretch to them, but this one certainly doesn't sound noisy. I've read a lot of instructions from various sources about disconnecting the vacuum hose, but I noticed today in the Haynes manual for the Range Rover with the 3.5 engine (the only manual I have which...

    Ignition Timing

Yeah, it's got the twin SU carbs. I've no reason to suspect it's not the original engine - no reason at all - but I suppose I ought to thoroughly check to be sure.

    Ignition Timing

Er's a 1989. Advance until it pinks and then back it off 'a bit' is a novel idea to me. My rough and ready approach before I got a light was to twist the dizzy back and forth to establish where the engine was struggling in both directions, then set it right in the middle of those two extremes...

    Ignition Timing

Hi all, Does anyone know how far before TDC (BTDC) the dynamic timing at tickover speed needs to be set? IOW, where should I paint me white dot on the crankshaft pulley gradations prior to breaking out the timing light? This is the normally aspirated 3.5 litre V8 with reluctor ring ignition (in...

    Pimp My Ride

Well I'll be jiggered. You're right about the holes; well spotted! And good idea about making any changes easily reversible. As far as the bolts are concerned, I could order s/s bolts and just dip the heads in blue paint prior to fitting. Yeah, sounds like a plan. :)

    Pimp My Ride

Since there's only two holes at the upper edge of where the light guards go, does that mean it will only accept the hinged type of guard, I wonder?

    Pimp My Ride

I'm sure there are scores of photos of her driving it or being driven in it in old copies of Horse & Hound, Country Life, Majesty and so on magazines back in the early 90s, but I'm not going to be hunting them down just because of that. I have better uses for my time! :)
