    leave standing for 3 months

Guys I previously asked about leaving my TD4 standing for 3 months. I have now discovered that I need to leave it for 2 years!! My climate is slightly warmer (average about 5 degrees warmer) than England, and fairly humid. I have a garage. Please advise? Is this feasible or am I making more...

    leave standing for 3 months

thanks for all the excellent input and advice folks. there will be someone available to start the hippo and let it idle for a bit, every few days. i'd prefer not to let them drive it though :5bdriving: would that be better than disconnecting the battery and leaving it?

    surprise when changing gearbox oil

... and I'm now nervous to re-check the level, in case it comes pouring out again. (By the way, I did drop the front down to level before re-filling. It took about 1.6 litres to re-fill.)

    surprise when changing gearbox oil

Replaced my TD4's (manual) gearbox oil with some MTF94 yesterday. As instructed, I first opened the filler/level plug. Surprisingly, about 1.2 litres of oil gushed out of the filler hole. I then opened the drain plug, and another 0.5 litres came out the drain hole. Why did so much oil come out...

    acea b3 vs. b4

is it considered bad manners to hijack one's own thread? :hijacked: .... so here goes .... do you brits get gearbox oil called "BOT 402"? here in south africa, we are being recommended by castrol to use their BOT 402, as we can't seem to get MTF94 (for GETRAG box) .....

    acea b3 vs. b4

My manual states engine oil should be "A3/B3" spec. Does that mean it's not a good idea to use "A3/B4" spec oil? Some oils are listed as "A3/B3/B4", but the one I'm asking about is listed only as "A3/B4". From a little digging it seems that B4 is backward-compatible with B3, but does anyone...

how do you repair vacuum hose?

I went to a pet shop, the aquarium section, and bought a little plastic connector (meant for fish tank filter hoses) for R1.20. That's about 9p!! Cut out the damaged piece of hose and replaced with my fish tank connector. (The damaged piece was about 1 or 2 cm and above the vacuum pump)...

how do you repair vacuum hose?

One of my braided vacuum hoses has been chaffed/burnt in one spot. How do I repair just that section, without replacing the whole hose? (It's a very long hose, and the damaged bit is in the middle.) :whoosh:

    harsh african test drive

Tyres are Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G051. (16"). Quite impressed with their performance in beach sand, since they are highway tyres, not all-terrain.

    harsh african test drive

i haven't, digby. been to a couple of car upholsterers though, and considered cutting the seat foam lower, but will only gain an extra inch at best. still not enough. think it's a cutting/welding job if you're serious about it.

    harsh african test drive

took my td4 (2005) for a 4 hour test drive through THICK beachsand trails up along the eastern shore of lake sibaya. my pics don't show the difficult areas, as i was maybe too stressed at those stages to think about photography! the car handled awesomely well, and i didn't get stuck once. i...
