Interesting, My '05 model has one fitted also but I've not yet experienced a winter with the Freelander. Is there much work/expense involved in 'upgrading' it with the timer & delay? Cheers

Yes all normal, the metal pipe is the breather pipe for the IRD. HTH

When I changed mine (due to the infamous hole from chaffing) I managed to just get a small - 6mm? - 'ignition spanner' onto it and managed to turn the the bolt head literally a sixteenth of a turn at a time, took bloody ages but it worked, eventually... Good luck

Well what a difference that made! I've driven about 100 miles worth of mixed A and B roads and another 100 miles on the motorway - rarely having to drop below 70mph - and the difference was very apparent; smoother, quieter and seemingly better on fuel although I haven't worked that out properly...

I've got to drive 175 miles tomorrow (mainly motoway) so I've filled up with diesel and chucked in 250ml of 2 stroke - the Halfords stuff - hopefully I'll be able to report back with positive results. Incidentaly, is this something you'd add at every fill-up or only now and again? Cheers
