Wiring new alarms system to close windows

1995 Discovery 1 300TDI Automatic without EDC I wired a new alarm system to my car and would like to wire it so it closes all four windows. The alarm has one lead for windows and it is timed to provide negative power for a few seconds upon locking the car . I was able to trace the wires...

    Turbo leak vs Rings/Piston leak

I took the new turbo back to the Garrett dealer for testing and they said it was working well and it did not leak. They suggested the return hose which I checked and had just replaced (used one) with the turbo. The also suggested that there could be back pressure due to a plugged breather...

    Turbo leak vs Rings/Piston leak

I was thinking about this again. Let's say the stem seals are bad and somehow that leaks oil to the manifold which explains the oil in the inlet ports. When I ran the car with outlet pipe that goes from turbo to intercooler off, the smoke stopped and oil dripped out of the turbo. How does the...

    Turbo leak vs Rings/Piston leak

Hi Alex, I got a new Garrett core to be on the safe side. I also took the time to remove and clean all the hoses and intercooler. It worked well for a couple of days and about 200 kilometer then it suddenly started smoking like crazy. Clouds of smoke. I pulled over immediately and popped the...

    Wastegate setup

I was replacing the turbo on my TDI 300 when I noticed the wastegate was not moving. I gripped it with a vice grip and got it moving with some wd40. Looking at the video below, is this all the movement you get off a wastegate? Is there any way of checking it before assembly? video 2012 07...

    Turbo leak vs Rings/Piston leak

Does anyone know where I can find core assembly for TDI 300 Turbo? I have been looking all day and can't find any in UK!

    Tick tick boom!!!

I know very little about cars in general and I answer just because I have gone through a head gasket change. It does sound like head gasket. The head is aluminum not cast iron and quite soft at that. It may have warped or not. You will only know when it's off and checked. No reason to...

    quick question

The problem I find with paddock spares and a couple of other suppliers is they don't carry enough genuine parts specially when it comes to gaskets. That creates a problem when ordering a bunch of parts and have to split them between suppliers and pay shipping on each order.

    Turbo leak vs Rings/Piston leak

Hello it's me again :D 1995 TDI 300 Auto no EDC no EGR So I had a smoke problem that got worse then turned into a huge oil leak coming from the exhaust-spring portion (there's a hole in it) right under the turbo/manifold area. I finally got around to taking it apart and on removing the...

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

What's a big end bearing? Is that the crank shaft bearing? Rear of front?

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

Sorry to keep coming back to this. I looked under the car as it was running and oil was squirting out the bottom. Upon closer inspection I found it is coming out of the spring portion of the exhaust right under the engine (not sure what is technically called). Obviously it is not drivable now...

    New power steering pump problem

But goes wring with the pump? And how would a brand new pump get damage by replacing a hose? The damage was immediate and unexplainable.

    New power steering pump problem

1995 TDI 300 Automatic 230000KM Steering was a bit hard when the car is stopped/parking and worked well otherwise. Nevertheless I decided to replace it with a new non OEM one and it worked quite well. A couple of weeks later I noticed a few drops of fluid and traced it to the hose going from...

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

OK after a lot of trial and error I believe I got it timed correctly and the smoke now is whitish and sells like burnt oil. I took it to a diesel shop to look at the injectors and he didn't want to bother with the injectors and told me it is a rings/pistons problem. So I decided to have the...

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

Well it is not that simple. It takes a minimum of 5 days to get a new hose shipped to Egypt. I take it plugging the hose is a bad idea. I will just splice it with a piece of stainless pipe for the time being. I will take another try at tje timing tomorrow. Thanks a lot.

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

I seemed to have damaged the top radiator hose while working on the vehicle. The hose portion that's going to the pipe on top of the manifold touched the water pump wheel and it grooved it quite a bit. I would like to cut it and plug both the hose and the pipe. Would that work? The heater core...

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

Thanks James. I should ask this question just to confirm before messing things again. I will turn the wheel on tooth to the right (clockwise) ......correct? And from there and after the belt is all set I should do the steps you described earlier with the drill bits to get the pump set correctly.

Ring job without taking the engine apart?

James, I followed your suggestion and progressively used smaller bits to set the pump. The furthest clockwise position possible is actually lining up with the pump pin. This is as far clockwise as it goes. I can go counterclockwise but of course that makes it worse. Does that mean I may have...
