    V8 Milner Adaptor

Sorry, should have specified it's a short bellhousing 4cyl LT77. It has a circular bellhousing whereas the V8 has a angular flywheel cover

    V8 Milner Adaptor

Ahoy there, i'm just bolting up an Discovery 3.9 V8 to a Defender Lt77 using a Milner bellhousing adapter, however the adapter ring and the original flywheel cover (used in Discovery with v8 r380) do not fit, so I have the bottom third of the flywheel exposed. This seems a bad idea to me...

    3.9 V8 into Series

I am about to start wedging a 3.9 Efi of Discovery 300 vintage into my Series. I know the ins and outs of all the gearbox options, I have done engine conversions before on classic cars. The engine will be running on a single point LPG kit most of the time, so its performance on petrol...

    Free-Wheeling Hubs

Hmm, they have been fairly well greased. they get engaged a few times a month when I'm about to drive through something sticky looking. I just think it would be a shame to lose them as I like the ability to run 2wd low range for maneuvering, and they look quite period too

    Free-Wheeling Hubs

The fairey free-Wheeling hubs on my truck have started all of a sudden to make a horrendous noise when in their free position. It was described by a more feminine passenger of mine as sounding like a bird cooing. It seems to do it completely at random with no relation to change of speed or...

    Handbrake woes

It hasn't got a ridge around it, as for being warped, when you adjust it to the point of just biting it seems to have the same resistance all around the revolution of the drum

    Handbrake woes

By true do you mean it may be warped?

    Handbrake woes

The handbrake on my series 3 doesn't work anywhere near well enough. The shoes are binding on the first click, and feel like they are applying the pressure, but just don't seem to have enough friction. It has new shoes, a new spreader, has been adjusted correctly (unless there is something...

    300Tdi Conversion

I've had a 300 in my series for over a year now, but over the weekend the power steering pump (which I changed into an idler pulley) did the 300 trick of spitting out the shaft allowing the pulley to mis-align itself with the serpoentine belt. I don't like the idea of buying a perfectly good...

    Electrical Issues

Ive got some braided steels ones atm, i dont know if they've got worse over time? there is an isolator on the negative terminal as well, and another earth running directly from the starter motor

    Electrical Issues

Things on my series 3 appear to be getting worse with regards to the electrics. The stereo cuts out all the time, the indications come on but do not flash, and the headlights get brighter when the handbrake is pulled on. Also, considering I have a great big new battery in there, the starter...

    Series 3 Doors

Does anyone else have to live with the never ending irritant of non-landy type people always struggling to find the door handles in lift up doors? Im caught wondering if there is a soloution, Im tempted to try and work out a mechanism to move the handle further forward?

    Swap: Series for defender doors

Hello out there, I fancy swapping the split doors on my series for defender type push button ones. Could work out well if there was anyone who was building a trialler and wanted to take advantage of removable door tops, however I just want wind down windows. If interested, I'm in the...

    Clutch fork Rod issue

Now that my new gearbox is in place, the plastic clip that holds the piston rod to the clutch fork has decided to come off. Does anyone reckon the clip is necessary, or is it just there really to hold the rod in place when the cylinder is removed, and the tension from the clutch pressure plate...

    Recon Gearboxes

The whole mamma jamma has just got back from city gearboxes in Coventry. First impressions are very goo, all very smart and a long list of new parts (basically everything but the mainshaft). 12 month warranty, shall see how it goes :-)

    Recon Gearboxes

After too much buggering about with dodgy used gearboxes, I have decided to take the rather expensive plunge of getting a recon gearbox for my SIII. I well understand the reasons behind the large differences in prices from different specialists, but I would like to know what other peoples...

    Transfer box gear selection!

Sorted it now, the issue was a combination of the shaft protruding too much, and the lever being slightly bent. A gas axe and some muscle did the trick. Cheers for the help Dr.Evil!
