    EGR not working on TD5

Hi! Yes fitted EGR removal kit consisting of the flanged hose piece and the blanking plate as recommended. Tried with both plugs off and secured not to risk shorts or touching vehicle earth. To be honest I feel no difference. But what's the use of all that? Main inspection is due within July...

    EGR not working on TD5

Hi! Fitted the parts and took a ride carefully to operating temperature – as expected same behaviour as before: relatively smooth after start-up but again very rough and due abruptly drop of engine speed hard to shift. Checked for fault codes: nothing detected neither with Hawkeye nor...

    EGR not working on TD5

Hi all together, thank you so much for all your prompt replies! Yes, I do remember a fault code "EGR inlet stuck, closed" or so but it is already some time ago. Anyway, thereupon I dismounted the EGR modulator and of course I discovered lots of smeary soot sedimentations. Removed them with rags...

    EGR not working on TD5

Hi folks, I'm yet considering the rough running of my TD5 in a 2005 Defender. On Monday after work discovered that the EGR is not working. For this I tried the following: plugged handheld "Haw...ye" tester to diagnostic socket with warm engine at idle speed and testing EGR functon manually...

TD5 to 300TDI or what ever conversion

Hi all! It may appear a bit mad but I'm considering to do a conversion of a Defender Ninety TD5 back to a much less complicated engine (apart from 300TDI). Is there anyone who can help with some connecting dimensions of the 300TDI backplate and the bell housing to R380 gearbox? I've...

R380 gear box removal on Defender

Hi! Just a question: is it possible to remove the R380 separately with the transferbox left in the car when engine removed? Thanks!

    Injector harness issue

Sorry for the late reply. I never discovered oil contamination on the red plug - it is dry and clean. There's also no oil in the bulkhead connector at the underside of the rocker cover. But: in the 5 injector plugs under the rocker cover the oil is omnipresent and may cause contact...

    TD5 Start-up problems

Hi Discodevon, sorry for a late reply! Got the issue sorted out as an air ingress issue in the fuel feeding system during cooling down. With unplugged sensors for fuel and/or coolant temps the start injection quantity is based on the reserve value: the bores in the injectors are flooded...

    Fuel cooler issue

Hi folks, discovered a faulty thermostate insert in a PIB 100060/50 fuel cooler. Withdrawing the plastics part with the two studs on it I've found a leaky wax element and a completely tilted pin. As this is for sure another source of error I looked for a spare part: pooh - they call up a...

    Injector harness issue

Hi folks, just a question to the Td5 owners: how often is the injector loom being replaced from your experience? After having massive cut-outs I replaced the AMR 6103 against a new one. Removed the oil out of the male solenoid connector with a blast of breake cleaner and this with compressed...

    Compression test on TD5

@ bushmaster: just forgotten to ask for the most important thing: What was the mileage when they did the test? Thanks, Ploughman

    Compression test on TD5

@ bushmaster: considering similar issues. Tested my Td5 (MY2005, "only" 117.000 kms on the clock) on all five pots by myself after pulling injectors (using selfmade adapter). Result: averaged 21 bars on hot engine and 24...25 bars cold engine (reference may be 15 degrees Celsius). Did your...

    Compression test on Td5

Hi jabber, sorry for delay! I'm "online" @ lz just every couple of days. See picture below with adapter and injector in comparison. The adapter is home-made on my lathe reproduced from an old and defect injector. Tester is a MotoMeter Diesel tester up to 40 bars. Tested all five pots using...

    Compression test on Td5

Hi folks, still battling with poor running Td5 in a MY 2005 Defender I did a compression test with home-made adaptor (on lathe) to have checked all five pots. As one can see indication charts show hot and cold test in comparison. Evenly about 21 bars at a few degrees less than operating...

Td5 flywheel conversion - tightening instructions

Hi there! I'm currently doing a conversion to single mass flywheel on a Defender. Is there anyone experienced regarding tigthening instructions/recommendations? Securing bolts delivered with solid flywheel are much shorter than the ERR6581 for original dual mass flywheel PSD 103470. ERR...
