    Diesel in Rocker cover?

I'm monitoring a slight (at the moment) diesel-in-sump problem. While doing so, and noticing that, despite the slightly raised oil level in the sump, it doesn't seem to smell of diesel. Checking for blow-by, from the dipstick or the oil filler cap (nothing noticed) I observe that the rocker...

New injector seals, new turner head, or new turner engine+ head?

Afternoon, Defender 100 doublecab, TD5, '52 plate, 195,000 miles. Oil level in sump rising. Have changed it, of course. Rise is slow (2mm on dipstick in 400 miles) Can't smell diesel (but then, I have a terrible sense of smell) Had injector seals (OEM) within last 20K miles Vehicle runs well...

How curious! said Alice "exploding ECUs; whatever will they invent next?"

So if the design of an ECU is so crap that it can blow itself up, how can the same company that designed it have the nerve to charge £600 to replace it with one of a similarly crap design? So, 10 years, £600 (+vat) = £60 pa (ditto) = £1.20 p.w. (inc vat) for ECUs - forever. It's not an awful lot...

    Td5 conking out

10 year old 110 doublecab p/up, 130K miles. Owned it from 80K miles, run smooth; serviced 8K ago, 100 miles per day easy running Parked for 2 weeks, facing up hill, full tank. Started it - it revved up then died. wouldn't re-start. Purged (pump 5 times). Started, but ran tremendously...

    Fuel Additive surprise

I know this crops up every now and then, but hadn't expected that, on adding the appropriate measure of millars (2003 td5 110 with 100K on) because I thought cleaning the injectors a bit might be a good idea (how do these cleaner reckon to work?) I was suprised by an instant improvement in...

    Improve road comfort defender?

Sorry, I've searched, can't seem to find much on road comfort (perhaps unsurprisingly!). My problem: An '03 defender 110 double cab p/up, TD5, 100K on clock, almost all road use (it's not even scratched!). I've run it for the last 24K round France a couple of times, bit of Spain, used...

    Def. 110 Vibration at 80-90mph

Obviously, on foreign roads... I briefly tried the 80-90mph speed range, and was surprised how noisy it was in my 2002 double cab p/up. Given that my previous, and more battered '90 station wagon was fine at these speeds - well, noisy, of course, but not quite so deafening - in fact, not so...

    WhiteSmoke

Not a band, but what I've had the last couple of times on starting after a full day parked, and again in the morning. Accompanied by rough running and reluctance to rev for a minute or two Prob been done to death, this. My guess: heater plug on one or more cylinders not working properly...

Pulls like a train when cold, but...

2002 TD5 110. 93K, VGC First thing in the morning - it's tugging at the leash. Couple of miles up the road, it's less enthusiastic. Not stuttering, just - not pulling that well. Uphill, 55mph, start to lose speed slightly - drop to 4th - and it's still lost a bit more, it might maintain, say...
