Squealing from engine, either water pump or fan belt ?

Hi Dave, This is exactly the issue that I currently have. I've replaced the tensioner and belt and have a loud squeak or squeal coming from the tensioner area. It is loudest when you start up from cold but after ten minutes or so fades. I was thinking that our issue here is the water pump...

    Diesel return hoses

Okay great thanks chaps. Do you have to ask for a particular diameter of pipe?

    Diesel return hoses

Okay I've figured it out, the leak seems to be coming from the pipe between the injector & the pump. I ran the engine & saw it leaking. Just need to wait until LR open on Monday now :/

    Diesel return hoses

On reading another thread I think I may have found the issue with my leak but I don't exactly know where to look. Is it possible for someone to post a picture/photo of the 'diesel return hose' for an L series 1999 2.0i so I can sort this out. Thanks chaps.

    Strange oil / grease

Cheers chaps, baptista it's not engine oil as it's clear & ChrisHughes that's an option worth looking into. Where is the clutch fluid topped up from so I can check the level? Another possibility is the oil seal between the IRD & gearbox from which I gathered from this thread...

    VCU support bearing

If I'm replacing the VCU am I right in thinking that I undo the front end first & support then the rear end & support. The the VCU bearings & take it out in one piece.

    Strange oil / grease

Thanks for the reply Nodge68. Are you saying have I spilt any oil or fluid? If so then no. The last time I topped up the PS fluid was approximately two months ago. As for engine oil, probably six months ago. I'll have a look again as I've jet washed that area to see what happens. All levels...

    Strange oil / grease

Hi all, I have an leak (or two) from the front end of my Freelander MK1 (see pictures) and I'm unsure as to where it is coming from and hoped you may be able to offer some advice. The oil leak is clear & not smelly (not transmission I presume) & is from the front offside forward of the oil...

    VCU support bearing

Hi all, Can you tell me if the propshaft sits concentrically in the VCU support bearing or at the bottom of it (due to gravity presumably)? If it's meant to be concentric then are new bearings the answer?

    Gearbox enquiry

Thank you all for your help, it's good to get help from you guys. I did notice last night that it appears to be working again however! Has this happened to anyone & is it just a case of crud around the switch or something else do you think?

    Gearbox enquiry

Hi, Can anyone please tell me how I identify which type of gearbox my 1999 manual Freelander MKI has. Are they are certain type for a certain year/model etc.? I think my reverse light switch has gone as that is the only part in the loop that I have not checked & I need to order the correct...
