Project... Where to buy a cheap one to?

Yeah it's best to have someone look over it before buying. There are some good YouTube videos of what to look out for also. A decent chassis and bulkhead are important. The more history the better.

Project... Where to buy a cheap one to?

My advice would be to find a £2000 late 80s with a MOT and use the rest for maintenance and improvements. You don't want to buy something you can't appreciate right from the start.

    Defender as an Investment

I don't think you can go wrong with a defender. I bought a £2000 1987 90 from a dealer a few years ago and I have been offered more than that now. Parts are cheap and as long as it is maintained it will hold its value.

Defender needs new chasis - advice

Glad you have got it done. I will be having a rear cross member fitted after a MOT failure on my 90. There is a few patches already so I'm guessing i will need a galvanised chassis in a few years. Great investment.

    Buying a 90

I have looked into this as I travel into the zone from time to time. As maverick said it needs to be registered as a station wagon not a utility 4x4. You may be better off getting a non-compliant vehicle and fitting a filter for £1000-£1500, or try avoiding all ANPR cameras :)

    Hi new to forum

Welcome, I would go for a 200tdi but I'd say you would need 1k for a decent one. Get one with a bit of history if you can.

Yeah I have been Essex off road a couple of times, broke a CV joint on my last trip but thankfully a helpful marshall got me drivable and on the road.

Yeah the little 205's are going to be replaced with some 235 A/Ts on black Mods. Doing the painting myself with no real experience so going to go for white with the black roof and black chequered plating. Should be able to touch up the white too when it gets a dink!
