    TD5 Mpg over 1300 miles

I ditched the EGR on my '99 TD5 back in the Spring and was chuffed to bits with the improvement. Anyway, the car has just flown through the MOT with it fitted, I asked the tester his opinion and he said it makes no difference, it the engine is healthy it will pass emissions whether the EGR is...

    loudmouth shogun owner

Jay Kay, In standard trim, the LR will run rings around any of the Jap 4x4's so you relax and rise above his taunts. Another thing, LR's are built here, by Brits, have some style.......Nearly all Jap 4x4's make the owner look like a scrap metal merchant or a pykie who's made a bit of money...

    TD5 front suspension, air/coils?????

Battenberg, That's an interesting idea, please let me know how you get on should you try it. My TD5 also sits to one side front and rear. The rear airbags are good and I can't see what would be causing the problem but it always sits over on the nearside slightly. Clanger

    Rear Kid Seats

They won't fit, totally fifferent design I'm afraid. 300 seats face inwards and Series 11 face forwards. Try a breaker, you should have any trouble finding the right ones. Clanger

    Sunroof fittings?

With regard retrospective ungratefulness you are spouting tosh. I made an assumption which, on this occasion, has proven to be the correct one. Any replies, whether you deem the information useful or not, represent someone trying to assist. I have my old '98 V8 sitting in a paddock, I bought...

    Sunroof fittings?

Dear oh dear, you are an angry little chap aren't you. It amuses me how people may act very differently online because they believe it affords them some sort of anomynity. Rather than spout off, why not learn to express yourself a little better and then I can probably help you in your quest...

    EGR anomaly

Charles, thanks for the reply and my apologies for not having replied sooner, I've been abroad with work. Filter is fine, it's a new-ish K&N and whilst the inlet manifold is coated in gunge I can't understand why the engine performed so well for a couple of tanks and then dropped off. Hey ho...

    Sunroof fittings?

Frogfart, Little wonder you've had so few replies with such an ungrateful attitude. Pattern parts can sometimes be faulty or not made to the same tolerances, I had a similar problem with a RR rear screen a few years ago. Ask your glass people to try another sunroof, it may line up...

    Cheap Oil.....will it be OK.....need a quick reply !!!!

Don't use cheap oil! Good quality oil, changed regularly is the best preventative maintenance you can give any engine. If it means waiting another week or so to buy good quality oil of the correct grade then wait. Clanger

    EGR anomaly

I fitted an EGR blanking plate to my '99 TD5 recently and the difference was astonishing. On the first two full tanks of fule it was returning an extra 70mls per tank with the acceleration slightly improved. However, a couple of months on and the improvement has disappeared strangely. I have...

    TD5 cat removal.

Forgot to ask, if I do remove the cat, is it MOT failure?

    TD5 cat removal.

Apologies if I'm asking a question that has been covered elsewhere. I've read a few threads regarding the removal of exhaust cats on 300tdi models. I have a TD5 and wondered if I can expect the same benefits by removing mine? I realise the engine is controlled by several brains and is more...

    EGR Valve success

I've recently fitted a £3.95 EGR blanking plate to my TD5 manual Discovery and, considering the cost, the difference is quite phenominal. Acceleration is slightly more keen but, more importantly, fuel consumption has dropped dramatically. Normally, it costs me circa £80 to fill the tank and the...

    leaky sunroof again!

Sparrowhawk, I finally found time to fit the new sunroof seals today and it could not have been more simple. Forget silicone, pop on to ebay and buy yourself a new seal, treat it with vaseline, undo 4 torx bolts to release the glass and away you go. It really is simple. The hardest part...

    leaky sunroof again!

Yes, you can buy replacement seals on ebay. I bought a pair for my TD5 recently and can confirm they work...For now anyway! £23 each plus P&P Major C

    Facelifting my Discovery...... Help please

If I were you, I'd definitely save up and buy a Series 2. The two vehicles look similar but are in reality two very different beasts with few interchangeable parts. In altering your S1 you would probably reduce its value and find it harder to sell one day. I've had both S1 and S2 Discoveries...

Rear view mirror, your reflections please?

Thank-you both for the replies, I shall have a go in the morning assuming the replacement has arrived. Is there a dedicated adhesive I should use for putting the new one on? You're welcome to the old one but bear in mind that it doesn't self-dim anymore and the compass has packed up! It's a...

Rear view mirror, your reflections please?

Evening all, I have a '99 TD5 ES7 that I'm about to change the rear view mirror on due to the crass design of the sunroof. Could anyone tell me how to take the old mirror off please; I'm assuming it is stuck to the windscreen somehow? It's the self-dimming type. Many thanks, Major C
