My secret handbrake, headlight ignition switch

As has been said the handbrake cab,e is acting as an earth cable, I had this happen on my 90. What you need to do is to run additional earth cables from the bulkhead to the chassis to give earth a decent path. I used thick black wire that was rated for headlights and put a couple in. G

1972 series 3 SWB new purchase

Not so bad if you have driven them, you know what they are like. If you go straight from a car to a Landy it is a cultural shock when it comes to speed, handling, leaks, noise. G

    Removing brake pipes

Fluid will leak out unless you clamp off the flexipipe at the back. I made up a blanking plug with a union nut and short section of brake pipe with the end crushed down. You could try putting putting some cling film/plastic over the top of the reservoir to stop air getting in (think of putting...

    Bleeding the bleeding brakes!

In the past I have started at the back and taken off the hubs and used massive tie wraps to squeeze the shoes and slave cylinders back in, the logic being that the amount of space for air to sit in the cylinder is reduced. You can the work around the brakes in order (near side rear, off side...

    Problems Bleeding Rear Brakes

Try working your way back along the brake pipes splitting them at connections to see if you can get fluid to leak out. Doing this will show if there is a blockage or an airlock. Once you have fluid you can then work back to the nipples. There is a chance that there is a wee bit of swear for muck...

    earths again?

Check that you have good clean contacts at either ends of the earth straps, add more so you have them from the engine to the chassis and gearbox to the chassis. Check and or add straps from the bulkhead to the chassis, it sounds like the handbrake cable is acting as an earth strap for the...

    Hub Cap Leak

I had this on my 90 and it was because the groove on the actual hub was getting dodgy and corroded. I ended up changing the flange and that solved the problem. G

    Indicator electrics

Check the earths on the actual indicator fitting as well, they have a habit of getting corroded badly. G

    Electrical problem with Defender 90

I would start to check your earths from the bulkhead to the chassis and chassis to the battery. If you are supplying power but it doesn't work it means there isn't a circuit. G

    Bleeding clutch problem

My S1 had a remote bleed nipple fitted by the previous owner. He ran a section if brake pipe up to the top of the bulkhead from the cylinder and plumbed in a nipple. It worked a treat for getting air out. G
