Used Land Rover Defender world... lies, lies and more lies....

The repairs were minor, mostly parts replacements from the last two previous owners (3 years), the rest of the documentation showed it to have genuine mileage and a full service history choc full of genuine parts. Many of the repairs could have been left but that's not my style. Of course I...

Used Land Rover Defender world... lies, lies and more lies....

I don't see what the issue is? It took me all of 3 months to find an un-abused, genuine mileage, unmolested 90CSW in the colour I wanted. Okay, it cost a little more than others and I had to spend a fair bit to fix the few issues you find with a 14 year old motor. But other than that it was...

Pimping out my D90, need a place/website for accessories

I'm more interested to know why that bird is taking a dump on the bumper of a D90? And what is it she can hear?

My 110 300tdi Bonatti grey project is complete(ish)

She's looking tidy now! Nice work. Did you have to do much work to remove the white rust? If so, any tips would be appreciated:).

What paint have you found Best????

Presently I'm trying the 'get it very dry then Tetra Schutz the granny out of it' approach, closely followed by the 3M cavity wax inside the chassis follow up. My rear cross-member will be shot blasted, zinc primed via a metal arc process to bond the zinc to the metal, then given a coat of rust...

London LEZ - Guide to getting an exemption

I'm renowned for my lack of patience, so I rang TfL after three weeks to ask why I my vehicle was listed as non-compliant, I ddin't mention the change, I just stated that my vehicle was an estate vehicle not a van, they got the update 'escalated'. If you're patient the records will update...

    Snapped thermostat housing plug

Agree with all above but with one caveat, be very careful extracting the broken bits. If you drop a good sized lump it'll vanish out of site and sit down at the inlets to the head requiring you to remove the entire thermostat housing.

London LEZ - Guide to getting an exemption

If your V5C doesn't mention County SW in section D.3 you'll need to contact Land Rover Customer Relations and ask for confirmation of your vehicle as a CSW from manufacture. Don't do this if the seventh letter is not either a B or M.

I am liking for a link

Not really designed to be a performance engine the old 300Tdi. Tinker away but bear in mind the more you rag the old girl the more likely you are to knacker it. I'm no ex-spurt though. I blanked the EGR (not the ECU), removed the CAT and that was it for me, no more tinkering required.

They're called J-Nuts. I refitted with galvanised ones.

London LEZ - Guide to getting an exemption

Well, as regards getting your body type changed your fooked. However, in the other thread Les mentions that TFL are 'looking into' the situation after having had thousands of enquiries and that any exemption would be based on vehicle rather than body type. As TFL's right hand is seldom aware of...

    2012 Low Emission Zone (LEZ)

Well, all I can say is that I was told that they were 'looking into it'. I went ahead and changed the body type to Estate (as it should be for a CSW) and I'm now compliant come 2012 on their database. I can guess in which direction they will swing though, the historical bias being toward...

London LEZ - Guide to getting an exemption

Following a few PM's asking how to get your Defender exempted from the 2012 changes to the LEZ I thought I would create a quick step-by-step guide for all those CSW owners whose vehicles are currently listed as having the body type: Light Utility 4x4. Firstly, you need to check your VIN. Plenty...

    2012 Low Emission Zone (LEZ)

@Markg If the 7th letter is a B or M you won't have a problem. If you need advice on the process just PM me.

    2012 Low Emission Zone (LEZ)

Yup, the distilled version is that the 7th letter of the VIN should be a "B" if it's a 90 or an "M" if it's a 110. Anything else and you're buggered. Selling, though truly nuts, is an option I guess. Just glad I bought a CSW when all around me recommended a panel sided.

    2012 Low Emission Zone (LEZ)

About 2k. Not economical in the least. If you have an older TD5 I've heard about an engine management tweak that can exempt you, but I don't have any other details maybe someone on here can help. Of course, if you have a CSW you should be exempt anyway. My 300TDi CSW is now no longer affected...

    Plus gas, GT85, WD40 - which one?

We can have sound moderators over here too! It's just the short stubby ones and the fully-automatic long ones that were not allowed to play with anymore. They're exclusively reserved for the hoodie and thug brigade these days.

    Plus gas, GT85, WD40 - which one?

You can get a small tin of the precious KROIL from reloading solutions, I also use it down the pipes of my lead chuckers. Dobermans are much easier to get hold of.
