No seriously....forget it. I'll ask someone who knows.

    Alternative engines

might want to look at Which vehicles are affected? | Low Emission Zone | Transport for London Second tab. Headed larger vans, minibuses and specialist diesel vehicles. Not all CSW's were registered as estates many are 4x4 light utility. it's arbitary. Was a serious question but if...

    V8 engine transplant...maybe!

Exploring the idea of a V8 for my 110 hard top for reasons that you'll find in the Alternative Engines thread in the defender section. What is realistic fuel consumption and does anyone run one on lpg and wht does that cost / how does it run. Final thing, what's involved in swapping 200tdi for a...

    Alternative engines

If you have a look at the TFL website all of the above are stuffed even if they are private vehicles. If it's got a diesel engine and weighs more than 1.25 tonnes and is anything other than an estate or car then it's toast after next January. So many people in the south east are going to find...

    Alternative engines

Thanks for the thoughts. It's a hard top registered as 4x4 light utility so not a prayer of re-registering. I asked. Only problem with the lpg route is that I cross to europe quite often and lpg is not welcome on the ferry or tunnel. Petrol seems to be the way forward but I want the same...

    Alternative engines

Can anybody suggest an alternative engine for my 110 defender. Either petrol ( don't say V8 'cos I can't afford to run it ) or a diesel that will meet the new London emission regs. Currently a 200tdi / LT77 gearbox which is practically perfect but as work takes me inside the M25 it will be...

    is there any point ?

I bought it because they are cleanable and I was heading for a dusty climate at the time. Marginal increase in power on my 200Tdi. I think it just lets it breathe more easily and it certainly keeps the dust out! Didn't put the sticker on so hard to say if I got the full benefit.

TD5 Defender Flickering Hand Brake Warning Light

Not sure if it's the same arrangement as a TDI but if there are two wires going to the top of the brake fluid resevoir take the cap off, careully remove the plastic bits from underneath and wash it with clean brake fluid. It's a low fluid level warning device which seems to stick from time to...

    gangsta lean?

Rear end shouldn't be at bouncy at all. Shock absorbers are there to stop that. If it weaves when you overtake a lorry then shocks are shot. Changing the springs and shocks was the best thing I ever did on mine as it made it so much more driveable. I'd go along with the advice about buying...

    More on the LEZ

There are nicer places to live in the Uk so let's take that as read. I spoke to TFL - LEZ this morning.0845 607 0009 option 4. They cofirmed that it is body type that determines whether or not you are affected by the change in regulations. If weight is below 3.5 tonnes you are ok till January...

London Low Emission Zone - LEZ

Got a 1993 110 Hard Top. Thought I might be able to get round this by getting an RPC certificate issued. Appears from the TFL website that this only applies to a list of specific engine manufacturers and Land Rover ain't one of them! Taxi engines must be on the list. So what about LPG...

    fuel eco

I get around 30 mpg from mine on a run if I stick to 70. I regularly do 600 mile trip to France and some times thrash it a bit to 80 when the pain and boredom kick in. It'll do that quite happily but fuel consumption rockets! It's a 110 200tdi hard top. Make sure the timming belt is changed as...

    alternator test

you should be seeing something like 14.6 volts at the battery terminals with the engine at reasonably high revs. If not then it's an unhappy alternator. Is the ignition warning light comming on when you turn the key (before starting the engine) if the bulb has blown it will stop the alternator...

    Help - Landy won't start :-(

Possibly a tooth missing on the fly wheel starter ring. you can turn the engine over a bit from the crankshaft pulley with a large spanner to move the fly wheel round and try again. Starter motor will engage with a differnt part of the ring and the motor will turn over if that is the problem...

    200 Tdi Rebuild question

Back in France with my trashed 110 Defender. I've decided the block etc. is salvageable, not the head alas. Number 1 piston is mangled so that has to go. I'm going to lug the block back to blighty to rebuild it. Some questions: Can any one think of a reason why I shouldn't replace just the...

    Diesel spillage/leak after filling up

If it's a 110 the tank is mounted at the rear and the sender is mounted through the side of the tank. The seal goes. (Mine did it on a Euro Tunnel train.) You won't be able to see the seal but you should be able to see a nice clean patch down the side of the tank and underneath where the diesel...

    200tdi Catastrophic failure.......or is it?

Funny you should say that! One or two little niggles that would be so much easier to sort out in the dry with an endless supply of cheap red wine! Every cloud etc.

    200tdi Catastrophic failure.......or is it?

It's amazing what you will consider when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with all your tools in the back and a sailing boat hanging off the tow bar. Blind panic led me down that route, right up to the point where I got the quote!!!! Prospect of spending that amount of money was...

    200tdi Catastrophic failure.......or is it?

Thanks Paul, this is what my head has been telling me. Parts are the killer, £2100 for bits in the uk and 4000 euro in France before we consider anything below the piston! As it was what turned out to be a non OEM valve spring that did the deed I'm only going for genuine from here on in...
