Replacing front diff with used rear diff

Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it. I will definately get my self a dti tool, interested to learn a bit more about diffs. In the mean time though I have desided to set up with a regular 24 spline diff. Probably not a bad thing not having a 10 spline locker up front anyways. Will maybe...

Replacing front diff with used rear diff

Sorry James I'm lost, what I wanted to know can I use my rear arb diff on front. At first I planned to simply swap complete diff housing fand do nothing internal. Then it came to my attention that this is a bad idea as it will adversely wear crown and pinion (as its bedded in as a rear. However...

Replacing front diff with used rear diff

Hi Paul, I will pm Jai and James M as well but if I understand you correctly. You think it should be ok to dissasemble my rear arb diff remove the pinion and crown gears and swap them to the orriginal front crown and pinion gears, then if I reassemble as it was it should be ok, to then use on...

Replacing front diff with used rear diff

Hi Paul, so presumably there is no ill affect on the arb centre which ever way it spins. So for the time being I can mount the rear 10 spline diff complete and when the wear is apparent I can swap the 10 spline diff centre into a good front diff? On a side note could I use a 24 spline diff...

Replacing front diff with used rear diff

Hi Guys I require to replace my front diff. I do have a used spare front diff so not a huge issue, however I also have the opportunity to use a used arb locker that was used on the rear. Is it stupid to use this on the front? I allready have a rear locker so no need for it there. I know it will...

Hi Guys, wondering what people think. I've had a sound coming from the drive train for some months that has slowely been worsening it occurs when I back of the gas particularly when I've been driving at high speed. The sound is like a vibration/rattle/zzzzes sound like a loose bearing or worn...

TBH I have replaced all components in my disco steering and suspension and run 30.5 tyres and have 2" lift and mine still feals very vague, every part I replaced improved matters but its still vague compared to my standard unmodified disco with orriginal parts from new and 65k on clock. I'm...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Sounds like good advice v8jon, thats what I desided to do. Put 60 degrees cw on diaphragm, seams to be the best with 2 turns on the smoke screw. At 90 degrees on diaphragm its quicker but smokes to much, and at 120 it smokes less but starts to return to normal power. I also tried 6o degrees ccw...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Yes I did mark it first.......its not stiff it pushes down, some 5mm, and pulls up some 5mm, but it feals like it hits a solid metalic stop. Just took it for a drive and it drives the same....

    2nd gear crunch

Hi guys wondering if anyone has replaced the syncro on 1-2 on an r380. I might try an oil change first, as just bought disco, gear box works sweet except 1st to 2nd shift crunches, shame on an otherwise great gearbox. I have never done any internal gearbox work before but you have to start...
