No V5 MOT required to get it?

DVLA will inspect it if they suspect anything wrong. I did this a couple of years ago with a motorcycle that had been off the road since '79. Missed the V5 stage and went from buff to V5C. Pretty sure I didn't MOT first. The DVLA guy turned up in a Mk 3 escort (a bog standard one) and wrote all...

    2.5 head on a 2.3 diesel

Just found I probably have a 2.5 head on my 2286 3mb block. Is there an easy way to confirm this...? The glow plugs are M12 (yes, I have bought M14 plugs which don't fit :(). I'm having the hot spots and valve guides replaced and don't want to keep buying parts to see if they fit (my 2A parts...

    109 refresh

Zombie restoration alert! Having taken almost a year off from the "refresh" (which has turned into a more major resto) and Landyzone, here's a little update. First, where I stopped last spring. I put the new rear member in ok, but then found last of other chassis damage and rot. Bit the...

    Siii 109" transmission (?) problem...

Agree, much more likely something is busted. Easy way....in neutral, handbrake off, push it along with some mates. Goes ok, it's probably gear box. No dice...You can check by undoing propshafts at diffs and pushing again. it goes...it's gearbox but weird...maybe collapsed bearing or...

2.25 diesel - oil light always on...

no sorn needed. Sorn only applies to tax (and effectively now insurance as you must not have a taxed vehicle without insurance)

    Hensey’s rebuild

Dunsfold might have some genuine ones. Got my standard shackles from them for cheaper than B-part....but check the threads, as i had to make 2 trips to swap the BSF stuff they gave me by mistake!

    My series 2 Rowland

Bulk head looks fine...well, not a lot worse than mine. Can't see the problem with using filler to stick on repairs either, my PO did the same and it got through 5 MOTs with me. :D Then I found out :(

Discovery Running Gear on a series

Agreed. Better was would be to put a series body on a defender chassis, if you want the classic look.

how much to pay for a truck cab and tailgate?

I just paid £170 for a complete cab in good condition with infill plate. Drevil is right, most go for £150 ish without the plate. You can pick up a gate for £5 to £20 at a show. You'll have to replace the centre rib, because all of them are knackered.

Chassis Leg / Spring Hanger / Dumb Iron Fabrication ?

Just welding a mix of brit part and yrm outriggers etc on mine. Brit part are not as good, but still does the job. Every bit needs a fettle, maybe because the LR did far from a perfect job first time. I know a least one of my outriggers was 5 mm out from the factory....best advise is to...

getting seal onto drive flange thingy

And don't polish it on the shed floor....it it can't hold a 75 Kg press, it can't cope with a vigorous polishing

getting seal onto drive flange thingy

+1. Get a 25 t if you have the space. Too much flex in the 10's when near the limit and you will be near the limit sometimes.

    2.25 diesel on veg oil

i ran mine on VO/diesel for a while, but i knew my pump was on it's way out. The VO might have killed it in the end... I wouldn't go above 20% VO now, but i do drop the odd litre in if the wife says it's gone rancid. It smells and VO is a bit too viscous for the pump design.

    Tax exemption... confused...

Not really. emissions will be similar for 95, 97 and 99 / diesel or veg. huge amount of pollution comes from manufacture of new cars, lots of energy/water/oil used to stamp panels and make plastics. Overall, even with less efficient engines, our classics will be less polluting than going and...

6 miles a day...you're going to wear it out. I averaged 0.8 miles a day last year.

    109 refresh

Keeping original derv unit. Will do the timing chain, new injectors and glows while it's out. Only had half a day this weekend (and my paddocks order didn't turn up.....grrr waste of express delivery). Had the old man run over bits with a wire brush during the week, found a few more "thin" bits.
