Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Austen, how did you diagnose the drive shaft CV joint?

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Thanks for the replies guys... Diesel Do... sorry if I've been confusing. I've now had the wheels checked and they're all fine. In summary... - The wobble can be felt through the whole car, but is really acute through the gearstick. - It does not make the steering wheel oscillate, like an...

Really? Didn't know that! Does the gearstick wobble thru tyres?

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Checked the wheelnuts... Not checked the tyre to be honest, but doubt it's that as I can't feel the wobble through the steering wheel. I'm really busy at the moment, but I hope to get chance to have a really good explore of the problem one evening this week. Even if I decide to get rid of the...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Here's a non-update on this... I bought a new small car to get me around and just use the Freelander for taking my dog out. Still not got to the bottom of what's wrong, but it's not got any worse over the course of about 500 miles, so I'm going to hope it's something small, so I can keep the...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Just had the front wheel off the ground and gave it a good ragging around and had a look at the drive shaft. Couldn't see any damage or feel anything that was particularly loose. I'm back to thinking it's that side of the IRD that's goosed. Gonna go and buy a cheap car this week, to get me...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

It's a manual. Last nights test drive was a bit more illuminating... The rumbling/wobble is seriously bad when pressure is over on the left front wheel (turning right) and non-existent when turning left. Now I've felt it several times, I can feel it coming from the front left hand side.

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

David... Tyres and wheels are fine. 1spin... Wondering if it is a bearing or outer, left side cv joint, as I've been for a steady drive down some country lanes and have found that the vibration is far worse when I'm going round a right hand bend (so the weight of the car in the left/passenger...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Cheers again Nick... I'm assuming that if the IRD/diff gears are screwed, the result is a load of noise from the grinding metal? I don't have the facilities to pick the car up safely and run the wheels with me underneath, but this is more like a silent vibration than anything like that. It...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Right, I've given the rear output shaft from the IRD and the input shaft to the rear diff a good shake in all directions... Neither of them appear ot have any play in any direction. I'm assuming this is a good sign...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Cheers Nick... is it just a case of shaking the output shafts to see if there's any give?

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Hi again all... My 2002 TD4 developed a wobble yesterday when driving on the motorway. It started off quite mild, then got pretty severe. There was no associated noise with it, the car turns on full lock fine (without noises), so I assume dit was the VCU bearings... lo-and-behold, they are...

Thinking of a TD5... Any Tips?

Phew... I thought you meant there are serious problems with a TD5! :D I guess I don't really "need" a Disco... I'd just like one. I shoot (a lot) and also run the shoot I'm in, so am forever lugging ton loads of pheasant food, wire mesh, posts etc etc etc around off-road. I would like a...

Thinking of a TD5... Any Tips?

Cheers Pat... Are there any dummies guides or stickies on here about ACE pipes etc? Also, is the drive train all good on Discos? Anything to look out for there?

    Freelander TD4 wont start

Hi, did you get anywherewith this? My Freelander is still at the garage and they can't find the problem still (after 2 weeks!) I didn't book it in, so they're doing it in fits and starts (so I've been assured it's not going to cost me a lot in labour!) but it's starting to bug me badly...

knocking noise near passenger side wheel

Is it a speed related knocking? Might be constant velocity joint... mine went late last year and weren't too expensive to replace (I had all 4 done).

Thinking of a TD5... Any Tips?

Hi guys, thinking of switching from a dead TD4 Freelander to a nice 2003-2004 ES TD5 Disco... Are they a good, reliable car? I've heard that the TD5 discos are one of the best landrovers around (with comfort) for reliability... What are the common faults I should be looking for on a test...
