    MOT changes from April

I thought my '03 90 was fitted (when new) with a cat. Mebbe I'm wrong? Whatever, the previous owner had replaced the exhaust with a s/s setup with no cat when I got it. I never understood the reason for a cat on a diesel - is just to satisfy dubious EU rules & regs again?

    MOT changes from April

Have heard that if a cat was fitted to the vehicle when it was built, it will have to have it in place to get the "new" MoT. Anyone know if I'll have to refit the EGR junk too?

Oil leak from Fuel Pressure Regulator?

Thanks 50 pence. I've never had the FPR off the engine, so it's always good to have the benefit of the knowledge and experience of good folk as yourself. I'll take a closer look at the head and cover now.

Oil leak from Fuel Pressure Regulator?

Just had my 90 TD5 through its MoT test, successfully. One of the observations that were made was that there was an oil leak from the "fuel block" (testers words). I didn't fully understand this so asked for clarification. Did they mean a fuel leak? No, an oil leak. Where is this "fuel...

    Rear Wiper Problem

Just a thought on the orphan white plug. On my TD5 90 (2003 like yours) the connector to the fuel filter (under the o/s rear wheelarch) is white......and if your fuel filter is like my new one it hasn't got a socket for the plug - so the white plug is left without a home, so to speak. I can't...

disco 2 td5 loss of performance

Looks like a pretty unanimous verdict on the EGR then. I'd like to clean out the intercooler and hoses too (or replace them) but it's sandwiched between the radiator and the aircon condenser. But that's off topic and maybe I'll ask for advice on all that on a new thread........

disco 2 td5 loss of performance

Can only endorse Shifty1962's good advice - my clogged MAP sensor finally convinced me to blank off and remove the EGR valve on my TD5. It doesn't take too long to do and is well worth it.

disco 2 td5 loss of performance

I recommend cleaning the MAF, AAP and MAP sensors anyway, whatever other remedies are applied. I say this as I cleaned these sensors on my TD5 Defender as part of a general all round check after I got the vehicle. In particular, I was astonished what a difference just cleaning the MAP sensor...

    Td5 Service

There are different oils for each part - take a look at Difflock :: View topic - Defender TD5 oil quantities & recommendations? Or search on the web, there's a lot of info available. If you have your vehicle's handbook, there's info in there too.

    Oil Pressure Warning Light conundrum

Sierrafery - there's no bollox in your reply - you made me step back and re-look at what was going on, so thank you for your good advice and for your time in looking into all this. You are most generous. You are quite right, what I am seeing now is the correct self check sequence and startup...

    Oil Pressure Warning Light conundrum

I have a 2003 Defender TD5, 92k miles, runs sweet as a nut. This week the oil light came on, and stayed on. Checked the oil, full. No nasty engine noises. I was suspicious that this wasn't actually an oil pressure problem, so connected a pressure gauge (which was last calibrated July this...

Intercooler removal on air con Defender

Thanks again Shifty. As I said, I am an optimist!

Intercooler removal on air con Defender

Thanks Shifty - I was rather afraid you'd say something like that! I'm very glad I asked though. Perhaps I'll leave well alone, for the time being anyway. Unless there's a way of cleaning out the intercooler in situ? I plead guilty to being an eternal optimist :)

Intercooler removal on air con Defender

This is my first post! I want to remove the intercooler from my Defender TD5 to clean it out. But aircon is fitted - and I would greatly appreciate the wisdom of you good people out there as how to get the intercooler out, before I dive in. Thanks all.
