I'm actually in the Peak District, but thanks for the help all the same.

    P38A 1997 2.5 new engine- won't start

Thanks! not too sure what you mean by the 'square thing'. I'm trying a few things out with the old pump (picture attached). The top half of the pump has a round pin hanging down (which rotates a little on a spring). I've been trying to slot that into the 'cup' into what I think is the 'sleeve'...

    P38A 1997 2.5 new engine- won't start

Thanks! The main body of the FIP has stayed with the engine (new engine came with the pump already attached), it's just the top bit that I've swapped over. Is it the top bit I should be tapping forwards and backwards? Thanks again! Steve

    P38A 1997 2.5 new engine- won't start

Hi all! It's been a while since my last post, but I've been using the forum a lot to help me slowly refurbish a p38 diesel I bought by accident and subsequently fell in love with. I like it so much I decided to replace the engine (which was worn!) with a much lower mileage one. After much...

    Various bits ans bobs

Not been able to take any photos today as i got stuck in Birmingham (it's been one of those weeks!). From memory the parts i have are: Gearbox Torque Converter T-box Linkage Selector + Cable Oil Coolers x2 Gearbox Loom Gear Stick Plastic Gearstick Gator thingy Transfer box lever with Leather (I...

    Various bits ans bobs

Sorry to keep you waiting- planned to get some photos today but got completely distracted swearing at my 'fender (long story...), then my battery died. I'll try and get some tomorrow along with an inventory of what bits i've got. I had a look at the output shaft today, and there's not a mark on...

    Engine Conversion - 3L BMW M57

I'm with Dr. Evil on the LT85 as the best compromise- they are strong boxes, and with a little practice, you can change gear very quickly, very smoothly. The R380 is a smoother box to use, and requires less arm muscle (from my experience), but will withstand a little less punishment. Not sure...

    What years are missing?

I like the idea of this. Would be nice to get a full complement. Mines '93. If we're including past, then i tick the 1984 and 1999 boxes too.

Rough running sorted but now an issue with LPG

Glad it was a simple fix! Happy motoring. :D

Starter motor wont come out - time for a V8

Mine was originally a lt77, so i guess the lt85 mountings are different to r380, as my mountings are original i think.

Rough running sorted but now an issue with LPG

Completely agree with Johndregg: LPG needs a really decent spark. It took me ages to get my V8 running properly, and it's still a bit weird. I found the biggest difference i made to mine was replacing the spark plugs for NGK items. Gapped at .7mm, which has made a huge difference. One...

    Various bits ans bobs

Hi Ginge, Happy to post the pics- can i get them to you early next week, i'm working away from home at the moment? Essentially a friend of mine has converted an auto disco v8 to a manual (personal preference, no other reason), and i bought the entire transmission from him as i was after...

    Various bits ans bobs

Hi Ginge, In case you are still interested...it does have shifter, cable oil cooler, gator etc. Just missing a flywheel.

    knackered flywheel? odd noise...

Interesting point...I'll try and confirm where the sound is coming from (i'll need to find a friend...!). Fairly sure it has the standard metal chain.

    knackered flywheel? odd noise...

Hi Kwakerman, tried that- noise still there. The gearbox is nearly new too, so i'm glad about that!

    knackered flywheel? odd noise...

Yup. Down or up, makes no difference (although i normally start with the clutch down to help the battery...)

    knackered flywheel? odd noise...

No, starter seems fine, and i think it's coming from a different place, closer to the cab floor. On further inspection it's more of a tinkling higher-pitched sound. Never does it after the 1st second.

Starter motor wont come out - time for a V8

Hi, Yeah, mine did: all the parts are the same as the 3.5 fitted to some fenders, so it's a straight swap. I went for the LT85 because of the extra strength, although there are more refined gearbox choices (R380 with a V8 bellhousing would fit).

    Defender chequer plate door cards

Hi Paul, I also remember seeing these at the nation indoor 4x4 show, and like you have since lost the card, and their website it's especially helpful! The ones i saw were the same style as the standard defender door cards, but chequer plate and painted: are these the ones you're after? I'd...
