Thank you very much Kev. Plenty for me to be getting on with there. I'll let you know how I get on. Jack

    1996 Disco - Fast Idle

And sorry, but seached the V8 forum for stepper info and it didn't bring anything up. Where is the stepper?

    1996 Disco - Fast Idle

Where is the most common place for an air leak? I can completely block the ****box inlet and the engine still runs at full idle speed. Is this normal?

    1996 Disco - Fast Idle

Throttle cable is returning fine and the throttle cable adjustment is backed right out. Can't make out where that adjuster in that file is. Is that on a V8?

    1996 Disco - Fast Idle

New issue that has just today surfaced: when cold the idle speed has jumped up to just over 1100rpm. By the time the engine has warmed up that has risen to about 1700rpm. Is there anything simple that could suddenly cause it to idle at these much higher rpm's? Thanks in advance. Jack

    1996 Discovery 1 HT Leads

Yes, that was my conclusion as well. Unfortunately the king lead that was on it originally was also too short and came out of its clips and rubbed on Does anyone have the part number for the correct lead and where to buy one from? Thanks Jack

    1996 Discovery 1 HT Leads

Hi, I just had some OEM LandRover HT Cables delivered. The part number is RTC6551 and all the cables are a light grey colour. All the plug leads fit perfectly, but the King Lead is way too short. The car is completely stock, with the coil mounted next to the radiator on the front...

    Rev Counter Problems

Hi, Thanks. Pulled the black and white wire off the single spade fitting (there is only one, not two), crimped the female terminal, rubbed down the male spade and re-attached. I'll take it for a run later to see how it works. Cheers Jack

    Rev Counter Problems

Hi, Seeing as I got such a great response to my stalling issue, thought it might be worth seeing if you can all help with this one: The rev counter on my '96 3.9 Discovery motor is very intermittent. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. The speedo always works, but the rev counter...

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

Mine was similar to that. It was slowly getting worse and worse until in the end it wouldn't run for 10 minutes sat on the drive without cutting out. Sounds like you might need a new fuel pump unit too. Got mine for £40+ from Rimmer Bros.

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

UPDATE:22/12/2012 OK, so after changing the coil, ignition module and Water Temp Sender/Sensor and no joy, I decided, as a last ditch measure, to change the fuel pump/sender. If that didn't work I was faced with either flogging it as scrap/non-runner for breaking, or taking it to a garage and...

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

lol, no, unfortunately no garage. And I know what you mean. I was trying to fit the ignition module in the dark with a torch in my mouth! Couldn't feel my fingers after 2 minutes :) After it dies, you can hear the pump priming when you turn the ignition on. It turns over fine. Very occasionally...

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

Hi again, Well, replaced the water temp sensor and the ignition amp today. No change. Exactly the same. Started on the button, first turn of the key, but after sat left running for 15-20mins it died and wouldn't restart. Left it for a couple of hours and it started first time again. It's...

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

Thanks again for all the advice, and thanks for the offer Mr Noisy. I'll do the simple bits first, like the water temp sensor and the ignition amp and then take it from there. Stripping all the hoses, plenum, covers, etc is going to be a bit beyond me with my limited mechanical skill and...

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

OK, so I've found the water temp sender and got one on order and I'm going to replace the ignition amplifier module as well, just in case. Cheers Jack

3.9 Series1 Discovery Stalling When Hot

Thanks! Mr Noisy, I'm in Chelford, not far from you. Problem is I dont know how far I can drive before it conks out. It "might" make it to Altrincham. Could you explain where the water temp sensors are, please? What am I looking for? I assume 14 cux is the ECU? Does this mean I can unplug the...
