    Tyres for a Freelander newbie

I'm just about to put a set of general AT's on my freelander, I am sticking with the standard size of 215/65/16. Is there any desperate need for the extra 10mm width and 17mm higher? (looks better/free tyres/works better off road etc) How much are you getting quoted for the BFG's? I've been...

I had the same problem, due to the garage not getting the timing correct, take it back and tell them to do it properly.

Advice - Cleaning gunk out of air inlet manifold

Hot water, washing up liquid and a brush, followed by pressure washer then put through the dishwasher when no one is looking. Remove all sensors before doing this though :)

    Running on Bio

I have a 98 L series that has been running on 100% bio for the last 3 years (35K miles) with no problems. When I first started I had to change the fuel filter after about 3-400 miles as the bio cleaned all the crap out of the tank and fuel lines. I now keep a couple of fuel filters on the...

    1998 2.0 di starting problem

Mine had a starting problem that turned out to be the banjo connection on the fuel pump being slightly loose and allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank when the engine was off.

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

No, I bought a diesel XEDi in April 98 and 180,000 miles later still have it. It's been off road all over the UK both for work and pleasure and has never let me down. The dealers however have been complete tossers and I would dearly love to spend 30min in a locked room with the supposed design...

    Which Diesel is best?

I use bio, 85p per litre duty paid. One of my customers has a catering suppies business and has invested in a proper bio diesel plant, currently making over 3 tonnes a week. Pity I'm always craving chips though.

L Series Non Starter, Turning over no Firing

Check the resistance of the glow plugs? Should be about 1 ohm. With the lead removed of course.

2.0L D Motor warning light plus intermittent power loss

Check the signal lead from injector 4, make sure that it has not been damaged and the connector is in properly. Mine exhibited all of these symptoms and it turned out that the cable had worn through and was intermittently earthing on one of the injector pipes. Fixed using insulating tape.:)

    Window rubbers

The white powder on mine is held on by the green mould and moss. Who says that they are not proper landrovers :)

    Kill or Cure?

A 90, are you mad? I spend a fair amount of my time on the motorway and a 90 is just painful, Also my car earns it's pennies as a camera car for the company so something with the drop down rear window is very handy.

It's definitely a diesel, unless I have been putting the wrong fuel in for 12 years :)

    Kill or Cure?

I'm going to take the head off at the weekend and have a look, there is a good diesel engineer just around the corner from work that will skim the head for £30 if needed. One of the window repair kits arrived this morning as well. :)

    Kill or Cure?

My freelander, a 98 XEDi which I have had from new has just blown it's head gasket, should I fix it or bin it? Bearing in mind that it has a few other problems; Electric window cables snapped Viscous coupling removed Radiator leaking Expansion tank cracked Heater matrix leaking (well they do...
