    What are these pipes?

At the back of my engine there are two small pipes coming up from behind the engine. They appear to be routed back along the top of the transmission. The ends that I can see at the engine end are curved like the end of a walking stick. Anyone know what they are or what they should connect to...

    rebuilding 3.5 ltr v8

If you start doing it the wrong way it won't quite fit right, so you coud just try it both ways

    v8 still overheating

As you know, I've also had overheating problems on my rebuilt V8. First it was the heater matrix, which was leaking and I bypassed it with a rubber hose. Second it was the refurbished radiator which I had put into it and the water was flowing across the top of the radiator and down one side...

    Disco won't start, says "click"

In the interests of finishing off the topic in case someone is searching for a similar problem in the future... I got the thing going. I connected from the positive terminal on the battery, to an in-line fuse, to a wire going through the bulkhead to a push button on my dash board. The wire then...

    Disco won't start, says "click"

Well I looked all around the area as best as I could given the limited access and I was crawling around on my back on the gravel. I found two wires that wern't connected. They were both black and one had blue marks on it. I connected them together and I got a picture of the drive train on my...

    Disco won't start, says "click"

That is was my guess,, but I can't see where to get at it. I tried unscrewing the four screws around the shifter and it came loose, but could only raise it up less than an inch due to the shifter knob being in the way.

    Disco won't start, says "click"

I took out my centre console in order to work on the diff lock linkages, and now the vehicle won't start. I must have upset something, but what could cause this? I notice a louder than normal click when I step on the brake, and it sounds like it's coming from the automatic shifter leaver. Not...

    Still overheating, what next?

I think I got it fixed... time will tell. I bypassed the heater core, which was leaking into the front passenger carpet so I couldn't see it. I drove it after that and it overheated once. I think this was an airlock because it sucked in water again when I took the cap off of the expansion tank...

    two fuel pipes?

My petrol tank on my disco has a fuel supply and a return back to the tank.

    Still overheating, what next?

I'll try that, thanks, Another thing, I noticed - if it overheats, it normally does it 2 miles after starting from cold. And then if I get out and take off the coolant cap, all the water gets sucked out of the reservoir, and I have to top it up. Then I can drive for ever with no problems...

    Still overheating, what next?

Hey, no problem. I appreciate any ideas. I just went over to Nigel's car place over here in Arkansas about 20 miles away. He took out the carpet on the passenger (right) side of the car and it was soaking wet. Leaking heater core, by the looks of it, although it wasn't blocked. I figured I'd...

    Still overheating, what next?

Thanks for the ideas. I tried two different thermostats, both new, both from two different land rover parts suppliers, and I tested the first one in a pan of water on the stove when I took it out, and it opened correctly. I looked at the valley gasket when installing it and I couldn't tell a...

    Still overheating, what next?

Well I took both pipes loose to the heater matrix. I took the top one off first, and no coolant came out. I took the bottom one off and a little coolant dribbled out. I hooked up the hosepipe and it flushed through the radiator OK, Good rate of flow. So it's not blocked. The car did overheat...

    Still overheating, what next?

Could be I suppose... If I take the hoses loose and hook up a hose pipe to one and see if the flow looks good, would that be a good test?

    Still overheating, what next?

Ok, here's the history, perhaps you all can help me diagnose... 1. The car had overheated before I got it, and it was in non running condition. No compression on one bank of cylinders. Other side not tested. Oil was way too full and when I took the drain plug out, loads of coolant was in there...

    Slipped cylinder liner??

Thanks, No false teeth in the glove box, although there is a mouse trap in there with a walnut on it, because I've found rat turds in there, and heard scratching in the dash with the engine off. Exhaust blow or cat sounds like it might be right. I checked the plugs and they all look the same...

disco 2 v8 rebuild still not happy

My 3.9 disco rebuild is the same, as you've probably noticed from my other posts. Next I'm trying to replace the water pump. Unlike you I'm not 100% sure I have a good block. Thanks, Roger

    Slipped cylinder liner??

Hmm, well it's not doing any of that. But it is still overheating, and now started running rough. Might be just a loose plug lead or something, but it coincided with when it overheated though. Sometimes I can drive it around for ages without overheating, and quite often starting from cold I get...

    Slipped cylinder liner??

Yes, I think you guys are right. I unhooked the exhaust Y pipe from the manifolds, boy did it sound good. Loud though. I drove it a couple of miles and I never heard any tapping. So I'm leaning towards it being the cat. Thanks, Roger

    Slipped cylinder liner??

The exhaust manifolds LOOKED ok when I had them off. And I put new gaskets on them and locking plates. The exhaust isn't any good, but doesn't that ticking sound like a single cylinder? Another thing is, it doesn't make that noise when the engine is cool. Anyone know what torque are the...
