Td5 non start - air in fuel system

Thanks for the replies. I'm certain it's air, you can hear it and see the return line from the cooler jumping around, but you could be right.. I have checked the ecu (all looks dry) Harness has been replaced previously. The crankshaft sensor has also been replaced. I am using a hawkeye and it...

Td5 non start - air in fuel system

Thanks, I've tried the fuel purge several times, can hear air in the system the whole time it runs. I can't get any diagnostics to communicate either.

Td5 non start - air in fuel system

Hi, I have 2000 td5 discovery which won't start (not getting fuel) The pump is good (has been replaced with a known good unit) but it constantly just pushes air around the fuel system. Iv ruled out the air bleed valve as being the problem, the fpr has been replaced a year ago so I think I'm...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Thanks will do. Iv just gone and had a quick to now to make sure i know where I'm looking tomorrow and I pulled fuse 1 out, I found that the fuse has got black areas on, I checked the others and found similar on most. I have attached a pic of fuse 8. What would cause this? None of them are...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Glow plugs have been replaced with new plugs and a new glow plug relay also fitted. I have checked and they are getting power with ignition on so assume these are working ok (the old plugs were knackered)

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

@sierrafery I forgot to say the purge cycle makes no difference in the cold, it still takes several attempts to start. Also I have charged the battery fully, and also tried starting it with the charger switched to boost - still takes several attempts on cold mornings. The fuel and temp sensor...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Another update to this.... Starter repair kit didn't fix the issue, another known good replacement starter fitted, issue still present. The issue is 100% outside temperature related. The car has been parked since Saturday, went out this afternoon and it started first turn (11 degrees outside...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Repair kit fitted this morning and starter refitted. Tried starting, started second attempt... First attempt, turnt key, immediately went to start and died again, not so sure this was now my problem (but clearly not helping)I will leave it overnight and try again tomorrow. I guess if it's still...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Hi again, Tried bump starting again this morning and again she fired up straight away. I then removed the starter and checked the contacts in the solenoid. I found one side of the contacts had twisted?? This means that when the plunger goes down it's only making partial contact either side...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Thanks, I don't think it's draining too much power as iv tried starting with a charger connected and also jump leads. Il try the bump start again tomorrow, if it starts first time il remove and strip the starter and see what the contacts look like. Thanks again, I will update tomorrow.

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Hi all, Iv just tried bump starting it and it started straight away. Does this indicate a dodgy starter motor? I'm going to try a bump start again in the morning just to confirm Thanks

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Not sure where the oil has come from, it's just seems to be on the crank sensor plug and wiring? No signs anywhere else. It apparently had a new clutch fitted before i brought it so maybe it's something they done? There was also no "o" ring on the sensor, presumably there should be? I have...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Update... I decided to check the starter connections today whilst still waiting for the fuel pressure kit to arrive. When underneath the car I found a wire wrapped up and twisted around the clutch slave cylinder pipe. The wire goes to the oil filter housing? It's a white wire, and I found a...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

I'm quite sure I bleed the system well after the filter change, the fact the fault is still exactly the same makes me confident of that. Today it started second attempt, I have just driven a faultless 70 mile round trip but I know tomorrow it will take at least 2 attempts to get it started...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Fuel pressure tester now on order, waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime I have replaced the injector loom and air bleed valve and fuel filter to no avail. I have started parking in a quiet area and have noticed in the morning if I put the ignition on and then put my ear down by the filter...

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

I've not tried to bump start it yet, il give this a go. Il also try to measure the fuel pressure and see what results I get. Thanks

    Discovery 2 cold start problems

Hi, I have replaced the r6 and r9 relays (no difference) I had a hawkeye total connected to read the codes (I still have it). I have checked the live data and it all looks ok but you only have a split second to see the data on cranking. It cranks and instantly goes to start but dies, depending...
