finally had a chance to drain the oil, no water in it! have also taken the head off and found the gasket completly knackered, especially between the 2 middle cylinders, the cylinders themselves appear to be good though, the hot spots (if thats the correct term for them) all have cracks in them...

cant see any water in the oil, will double check when i drain it. would excess oil cause a knocking noise when it was running?

Just checked oil level, it is in the danger area of the dip stick, im up in northumberland near alnwick, cheers

Thanks Guys, Managed to get it running (sort of), sounded like a bag of hammers and oil was coming out of the top of the engine aswell as a few other places it should'nt have been! Im guessing next step is stripping the engine down as its something bad inside?
