Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Final update on this saga: 1. I suspect me spotting seized visous coupling due to this gear boax fault was nothing but conincidence. 2. I needed major overhaul on my gear box: I went to The Mechanical Workshop, Littlethorpe, Leicester. I can recommend Simon's work there. He's probably not the...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Thanks Datatek. Better forget those fog lights I think, I want to look after the new gearbox and I'm towing heavy. Sounds like only the very last (not all 99MY on) vehicles had the fan. I can't find any info on it online though?? Anyone got any part numbers etc. Any reason it might not fit...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

So I'm biting the bullet and getting the box changed. Very helpful and knowledgeable chap Simon at The Mechanical Workshop, Leicester. Not the cheapest or the nearest to me, but he seemed to know these gearboxes well. Let you know how I get on. Can anyone confirm that later auto DSEs did indeed...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Sorry Wammers, I guess you're referring to this post (?) http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/p38-front-fogs-174335-2.html So did a photo of your bumper ever get posted?? Did I read somewhere that later (>'99) DSE tranny coolers had an electric fan on them so they could have the front fogs?

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Thanks for the input again recently - appreciated. I'm pricing up various people re: recon autobox - will report back later on that... Is my DSE worth spending £1500 on?!!! lol (haven't found a cheaper way to tow 3.5 ton yet!) As a side issue I've always fancied front fog lights on the DSE...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

delayed reply as I wanted to get some miles done before reporting back. Put in the Lucas Fix - btw it takes a while - very thick treacley stuff! Done 700-800 miles now (mostly motoroway) and.... It's getting worse :-( Resigning myself to a new gearbox, but even that isn't proving...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

OK guys. Thanks. The excellant Worksop Motor Spares has a full range of Lucas (USA) products in stock so I'm just about to give the Tramsission Fix a go. (This simple fix would seem to good to be true!)

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Well I'm back again - sorry to say after 2nd gearbox oil change following correct procedure etc i still have the same problem. I've posted a youtube video from my faultmates AVI captire of the bosch gearbox ECU: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKQwtchYFIk&feature=youtu.be This shows the way the...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Hope I followed correct refill procedure too Datatek!! Things of note on my refill were: 1. filling is via the dipstick tube on my '98 DSE 2. don't over fill - only got about 4.5-5 litres out of a simple drain (without flushing things etc) 3. move shift lever slowly through the gears when...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Sorry for long delay feeding back on this topic. As per past disucssion I did change (just) the VC. Swapped out from a 2nd hand transfer box I purchased. I DO think the VC was seized, but (sadly) this hasn't sorted the problem with the torque convertor still not settling properly into to...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Thanks James. I'm thinking that the transmission 'wind up' was putting just enough strain on the gearbox to stop it settling into proper lock up of the torque convertor. That was my only symptom of a problem - that and the tyres scrabbling...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Test drive with front prop off (carefully). no problem with torque convertor popping in and out of lock-up now! I'm now assuming the viscous coupling is no good, unless anyone else has other thoughts...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Thanks you guys. Fault mate says, Gearbox ECU no faults (how's that for a first!). I'm having second thoughts now, triggered by the fact that when I was backing back, full lock the other day, my mate noted that my back wheels were 'scrabbling' over some gravel. it's like your diff is locked he...

Torque Convertor lock up issue perhaps?

Hi All, I've been looking at this post http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/p38-2-5-auto-box-puzzler-132064.html as I try and diagnose a recent problem with my 1998 2.5 DSE. (150k miles) the auto gearbox appears quite happy until I get to cruising speed. At 70mph I'm revving at just a little over...

p38 oil filter housing gasket missing?

Was my question too obvious? or too boring?! ;) In case anyone needs to know: Part No.: STC3337 is: Gasket - Oil Filter Housing to Block - Genuine Land Rover. Got mine from Rimmer, £3.50 ish. I think the part no. is a LR one, but not sure... looks embossed on the piccy so didn't make my own...

p38 oil filter housing gasket missing?

Just in the midst of renewing the oil cooler pipes on my 2.5 diesel. Whilst I was at it I wondered if there was a gasket to renew between the engine block and the base of the (aluminum) filter housing. Should there be a gasket? No sign of one (or gasket gunk) on mine. If there should be one is...

    faultmate as cheap as possible

If you're really tight like I am... Just to say that if anyone is thinking of getting a faultmate from Blackbox in Cyprus you can save about £25 plus vat by not ordering the complete software/hardware kit, but ordering your hardware first and then the software separately. It's slightly cheaper...

    P38 2.5 Plug Relay Faulty?

to update on my glowplug failure problem, a new set (bosch ones from fleabay) DID solve my starting problem, just as wammers predicted. On the bench with the multimeter the duff plugs (5 of the 6) either had full or substantial resitance when testing for continuity. The good plug had no...
