tip top, i had the same on my old transit ages ago, head gasket went and i just stuck new gasket on in a hurry, didn't set tappets and it ran like a pig!!! lesson learnt by me lol

never know a tdi bend a valve when belt has gone and timing correct and was doing at least one a day during the "glory years" of 300's, ie before land rover admitted there was a problem. can bend valves if timing has slipped prior to snapping though. also are al the lash caps in place on top of...

sump can be done with engine in situ, easier to drop the anti roll bar down to get it out, no gasket, just RTV sealer. i've heard of vac pump repairs by removing the pump,drilling out the rivets that hold on the end cover and replacing them with small bolts, sounds feasible but never done it myself.

i had water in timing chest on my 90 years ago even with plug fitted, put it down to condensation build up ( i hadn't fitted a breater), maybe thats a crap theory but it goosed my belt tensioner.

iirc they are on top of the bellhousing, bit of a bitch to see with bodywork on, not much of a problem when its being stripped. got a blue plug on it.

think insurance is an issue on anything at 18 but steer clear of the Mpi, gutless and not over reliable, you'll kick yourself for not getting a tdi
