Just to let y'all know - wheel balance was ok - but the steering damper was shot. Replaced with a gas damper from OME and now drives a treat - also seems more accurate at low speed which is odd. Thanks for the help :)

Easiest thing to do is check to MOT certificate - there's a box with Type Of Fuel next to it and it will hold your answer :)

ahahaha er.. how er.. um. Not really a bong - my ears were deceiving me, more of a clank, now that I really heard the sound when I listened. followed your instructions slob - gear goes in about halfway down, and I need to lift only a little to get the beasteh moving.

nope - no slippage. There's some play at the top of the clutch pedal travel. No feel at all apart from return spring(guess). Clutch disengages gear about halfway down, and re-engages gear about 3/4 down (or 1/4 up)

There's a new sound coming from my gearbox (I think) which is causing a metallic bong when i change gear from 3rd to 4th? Happens like this; clutch goes to the floor with a clonk, then shift from 3rd, bong, into 4th, clunk, engage clutch, clunk as drive taken up. Any ideas? :)

synchro. dammit, after all the discos I drove this one had the best gearbox out of the lot. It doesn't sound like the usual grinding noise associated with no synchromesh more like a 'bong' The list grows, gonna get my hands dirty this weekend I think.
