    Mixing tyre brands

Is it ok to mix tyre brands front and rear? Have Pirelli Scorpion ST's all round at the moment - rears replaced a 3 months ago and now the fronts need changed too. Seen some Goodyear Wrangler HP's at a good price, but fear the consequences on a 1998 xedi!... Would obviously have the new tyres...

    Brake weirdness!

Aye, sounds like it got it's knickers in a twist - not nice at 80 in traffic! Think i'll get it booked into an indie garage, aint worth the risk with brakes.

    Brake weirdness!

Piling down the A1 yesterday when all of a sudden my 2.0L seems to start braking itself, complete with noise of the ABS (or TC) working - not anchors on, just firm-ish. I pulls off the carriageway and goes for the brake pedal to stop properly and no brakes, just a stiff pedal kicking back as if...

    Silver final drive oil!

Afternoon friends, 1998 2.0L manual ,33k on clock - just checked me final drive oil level, and when I took the filler plug out the oil behind it was silver. Should I be worried or is this some weird kind of gear oil I've not seen before? Surely (please god) the internals aren't grinding...

    Fun in the snow?

While everyone tucked up at home on Monday night, I took me Xedi around the top roads of Ilkely Moor for a bit of fun - big hills, snow drifts the lot. Sailed through the lot no problem... and I got the 3 amigos up so no electrickery to help! Sod the "get a proper..." brigade, it was the dogs...

    engine management light

Had exactly the same symptoms last week with my 2.0L, management light coming on, revving randomely - check the vacuum hose running into the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor which is located on the passenger side of the bulkhead. Mine was drawing in air where the hose is joined to the...

    Prolonging your IRD/VCU...

Thanks Hippo - nice to hear the occasional positive opinion! I'm a 'glass half full' kinda guy (i must be otherwise i wouldn't have touched a Freelander after trawling through this forum :D ), the car's been well looked after, and i'll do the same. Only time will tell now!

    Prolonging your IRD/VCU...

    Prolonging your IRD/VCU...

To quote from Decembers LRO magazine (p41, Use it off-road or lose it).... "it has even been suggested that Freelander 1 drivetrains will enjoy being able to allow the wheels to slip and that doing so may prolong the life of problematic IRD and viscous couplings" What's the general...

    Should I/shouldn't I?

No worries - still a better price than the one from twisted performance! Just waiting to see if the deal's gonna go through now... fingers crossed

    Should I/shouldn't I?

Nice one chaps - just needed my arm twisting a teeny bit! Tuning up for £60 sounds good too, had briefly looked into this and thought it would be nearer £500! And yes, the "should i buy something Japanese instead" was a wind-up - didn't have to wait long for a bite did I? lol :D

    Should I/shouldn't I?

Hi all Having been a previous 90TD owner some years ago, i'm hoping to rejoin the LR fold with a Freelander, though having trawled the threads it would appear i may be insane... So, been offered a '99 XEDi 5 door by a mechanic mate (his late father's), 31k (yes really) FSH, great condition...
