Silly question here how are you checking the play ..? Best way is to jack the chassis up and let the sus droop ... Chassis jacking on a d2 can be hard halfway down the doors is a cross member you can use and place axle stands carefully on the out.rigger and allow the axle and arms droop you...

I would start simple and begin with what was retro fitted who fitted the lights loom ..? And was a proper job done is the relay fully switching off and not holding slightly ... Are you useing a good body earth point for the lamps and the relay .. Haven't just found a earth wire and tapped into...

Have you taken a peek at the underside to see if you still have airbags fitted ..?

.... The center diff in affect locks the front and rear prop shafts together so they spin as one unit allowing drive to the front and rear axles the front and rear axles still have there open diffs so the half shafts can move independent of each other so your jacked up single wheel will be able...

So your testing the center diff lock is engaged by jacking up the left front wheel only and spinning the front wheel ...?

Sounds like we need a big trip out ....
