I have to replace the steering lock, I'm guessing by drilling out the old shear bolt studs??? Anyone???:confused:

Just about to embark on a swivle housing renovation. I'm replacing all the bearings, seals and CV joint and upper swivle pin (as that's what's come in the kit). Any tips greatly received. Got haynes manual - looks like quite a long job.:confused:

ER? I think 3 months for a new Britpart water pump is very unacceptable, previous Britpart pump lasted on my TDI300 for almost a whole year!!! My daughter runs an 1960 Morris Minor - still running the original 43 year old pump! Biggest problem with parts seems to be poor quality rubber seals -...

I'm on my 3rd Britpart water pump in 18 months, the current one only lasting 2 months! At least I'm getting quite adept at changing them!!! Think the main problem is the tiny seal inside that obviously is not up to handling hot water, it splits - letting water into the bearing - and bearing...

I've just tracked my Disco (using the peice of string method) from slightly toe out to bang in line (ish). At the same time I corrected the front tyre pressures from 40 down to 30 psi. Test drive nearly scared the pants off me! Car will suddenly wander off violently and I can just about keep it...

I think the leak might be due to wear to the oil seal that acts on the swivel ball. Also, I got an advisory about play in this area at last MOT. I see you can get a kit of seals, gaskets and shims from Rimmers. According to Mr Haynes it's quite q job! - Unless anyone knows of any...

Lots of oil all over the inner side of N/S front wheel dripping down around the swivle hub and all over the track rod end. Is there a seal there somewhere?:):confused:

I fitted new ball joints (one was completely knackered). Anyway, I counted the threads and put new ball joints on - but I've now got serious toe in and steering wheel is off centre. One of the ball joints was a bar steward to fit (had to help it on with a scaffold bar and lots of copper...

My Disco has just failed its MOT on Steering Locking Device insecure (2.2.C.1g). I've taken the plastic covers off and all I can see is that the lock barrel rotates through about 10 degrees when locked and the steering wheel is turned. Once unlocked the steering operates OK. The only thing...

Oil seal is narrower than the gap in the casing. should it be pushed in as far as it will go - or be just flush to the outer casing? Anyone??:confused:

Many thanks for the advice. Re: Grease on new bearing - I'm following the Busterbus guide apart from the slide hammer part - I made up a homemade puller instead.

Hi, I'm replaceing TB front bearing (Box in situ). Mr Haynes says EP80/90 for TB - but does not tell me how much - I'm guessing about 2 Lt? Also book says gearbox (Manual) uses ATF!!! Surely should be MTF??? Again, no ref to capacity of gearbox. Lots?? Also, the old TB bearing was completely...

Annoyingly, all I want to do is replace the bearing. Given up with the slide hammer, Think I've got an air saw somewhere - might try and cut through the outer race (there's room for the blade as half the ball bearings are missing). Then with an air chisel I'll hopefully be able to dislodge it -...

Nah, still not shifting - the outer race just seized solid.Just wondering if it's possible to remove the transfer box without having to take out the completegearbox as advised by MR haynes.
