Swapped the compressor from my 3.0L and it works perfectly now. Time to take the drier apart and see if it can be fixed.

I will add to this that the car was stolen then recovered. Part of the repairs done after recovery was a front lower suspension arm that get bent when they hit a curb or something. The code was there then but as I say has been getting worse
