Just an update....the garage had the car for a few days and did find the problem. It was a faulty relay! They did refund me for the stalk and didn't charge for the time finding the problem so it is all good now.

Thanks guys. I will quiz the mechanics about the earth and the relay when I take it in next week.

Hello from a new member. I have a 2010 FL2 2.2 TD4 and for the last year or so I have been having problems with the front wipers stopping mid journey. They sometimes don't start at all or sometimes stop working (either mid screen or in park position) after having been on for some minutes...
