Do you keep a fire extinguisher in your Defender?

Not me, except on fire training courses. I'd prefer CO2, Halon or BCF but you can't seem to get these anymore. I've got a big old beast of a CO2 from the 70s in the house. No idea if it would still work if needed, so I've got a little toy powder one from Lidl next to it.

Do you keep a fire extinguisher in your Defender?

I've always kept one in my Land Rovers - Defender 90, 110, Discovery 2. Not the non-Land Rovers though. Can't think why.

Battery cable clamp to kill switch

You can get a hydraulic crimping tool off ebay for £25 to £30. Then the terminals. Got one myself. Worked fine. Or as suggested, find a place that makes them to order.

The Land Rover Social by Live

I went. It was reasonable for a first attempt. But I didn't have to travel far and would have been disappointed if I had. I suppose I compare it to Peterborough which takes some beating. I find Billing disappointing compared to Peterborough. I'm not interested in the arena stuff. I go to see the...

Door seals, genuine ones are silly money

I've compared side by side a genuine front with a Bearmach one. The Bearmach branded one wasn't in any way inferior. And was about half the price.

    Tub/side seals, easy job?

Try to find some PU sealant, or similar paintable stuff. Not silicone, which isn't. But if you're never going to paint it then it doesn't matter.

    Doors

I got a steel galvanised drivers door from SP. I'm happy with it apart from one thing. The tubes through the door where the hinge bolts go through were way too long. They protruded about 3 mm. I could just get the nuts on with a couple of threads and not enough to engage with the nyloc. Fitting...

    RAPTOR

Don't try using a standard sponge type roller for a big or long job. It will swell up after a while and likely fall to pieces. Ok for a quick job though. Or just use several of them [depending if you can get them free from work or not ]

    Windscreen Fitting

I got a pro to fit a heated screen last year. He brought his own screen and I supplied a new Bearmach seal. He was ok with it. I didn't hang around to watch him. Something that might annoy me if I were in his position. On his own, he did take a while but got there in the end. He told me he...

    Defender 200tdi turbo heat shield

I see what you're saying here and admittedly it will still be a bit on the warm side. But if there is no direct contact with the bonnet insulation it will still give a good measure of protection, especially if there is limited contact area between plate and bonnet structure, say with thick...

    Defender 200tdi turbo heat shield

If it's only the bonnet insulation catching fire that's the problem then why not put heat insulation on the underside of the bonnet in the affected area. A flat stainless plate for example, or whatever fabric type of material that suits you. Or both.

Dinitrol application - what am I doing wrong?

That's the sort of thing that I tried initially and failed. It just would hardly spray any Dinitrol, even thinned down and warmed up. The more I increased the pressure, the more blew out of the vent hole. I have a very sizeable and capable compressor, so air supply wasn't a problem.

Dinitrol application - what am I doing wrong?

I had exactly the same problem as you Mr dag019. I tried all sorts of arrangements with tubing etc, but still ended up nowhere. In the end I bought a proper metal canister underseal spray gun. This one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121506217427. Unfortunately, the price has gone stupid over the...

    Another defender LED indicator problem!

I tried the LED dash bulb with the earth fix. Didn't work. Just fit standard bulbs in the indicator repeaters on the sides of the front wings. That fixed mine, it's a known fix, and will likely solve your problem.

Single Point Swing Away Spare Wheel Carrier

My door had failed too. Cracks and holes where the wheel mount frame attached to the skin. I reskinned the door with galvanised steel then bonded thick aluminium plate on the inside between the frames. Main reason for fitting the GORE hinges was security.

Single Point Swing Away Spare Wheel Carrier

I fitted some GORE rear door hinges and they say you can do away with the need for a separate wheel carrier as their hinges will stand the weight. I still fitted a 2 point swing away for other reasons. I have to say, the GORE hinges, both rear door and bonnet, are a work of art and deserve to...

    Kenlow fan damaging radiator

Doubtful. Looking through the package of receipts from the previous owners it has been fitted with plastic ties for around 8 or 9 years.

    Kenlow fan damaging radiator

My fan was held on with bits of plastic through the radiator fins [previous owner]. When I replaced the radiator a month ago I had to cut the plastic tie things off. And there were only 2 of them anyway. I couldn't find anything decent so, short of time, I used electrical tie wraps, through the...

    Slide OUT camper sides

One of the Land Rover mags in recent months had one in it with slide out sides. I can't give any more info as I just don't have time to sort through mags and find it. But it has been done and it was a good effort too.
