Desirable or damage? Two hole gasket instead of one hole gasket.

moving the valve stem seems slightly out of my wheelhouse. I’ve got some feeler gauges somewhere but I think I’m going to go for a thicker gasket.

sadly I reckon you are right - it’s the sensible option to get a like-for-like gasket. bugger, thought I might get it running today!

Desirable or damage? Two hole gasket instead of one hole gasket.

Aha, I may be stupid Thicker gaskets for greater piston protrusion. Am I reading this correctly? One hole (as removed) is the medium thickness and the 2 hole appears to be for minimum piston protrusion? therefore a three hole or one hole should be okay but the two hole might be too thin...

Desirable or damage? Two hole gasket instead of one hole gasket.

I bought my head gasket ready for this weekend’s work, and got a two hole instead of a one hole gasket. I wasn’t sure what size I needed at the counter (pressure of being under-informed at the parts shop!) so I went for ‘one higher’ than the one that came off. Doing my duty and reading the...

    Dremel on the block head?

Okay awesome, I didn’t think a nylon one would do the job but I thought a steel one might scratch the head. Thank you for the link!

    Dremel on the block head?

In the middle of cleaning the block for a new gasket with a very light application of a dremel and 240 grit sanding pads which is making slow progress. Does anyone have tips for this? I’m also concerned about the ‘burr’ from the piston edges. Is this original? Is this removed if you have the...

    Help with the VIN ID

Ah Ha! That’s what I was struggling to get info on. 2A is 2002 onwards! You are a beauty. I’ll get some plastic Dowels as replacements then if I can. Apparently the metal can crack the old heads? Thank you very much!

    Help with the VIN ID

Silly question but it’s a big one for me I’m doing a head gasket replacement and my dowels look like they’ve been burned away. I’m keen to replace with steel but my VIN doesn’t seem to match the discovery codes? (EG 2A622424 onward) My code SALLTGM97YA263461 doesn’t seem to fit the ‘2A’...

Discovery 2 - TD5 Electrical clips (for holding connectors)

Yep, I’ve got a magnet ‘onna stick which I dragged though the gravel for longer than I want to admit. Still couldn’t find the thing. I would have been slightly happier if it had stuck in my forehead than losing it!

Discovery 2 - TD5 Electrical clips (for holding connectors)

Hi all, So while fitting a new fuel filter I was removing the metal wire clip that holds the electrical connection to the fuel/wate sensor. This pinged off with such force that bounced off my dumbfounded face and ricochet’d into the gravel I was working on. It's now totally gone and I...

Disco II - TD5: Sunk Cost Phallusy

Hmm apparently not? The Haynes manual didn’t mention anything special. as I haven’t emptied the reservoir and pumped all the air out the new callipers I assumed that’s all there could be. What am I missing out on?
