    Paperwork & route for Morocco

Hi Nick, I've just got back from a trip to Morocco. We went in via Ceuta. You don't need a carnet. I'm insured with lancaster at the mo, they wouldn't extend the insurance outside of Europe so we got it sorted in a wee office in the town center just over the border in Morocco. It cost...

    Windscreen replacement

    Nope, it's an R reg 300Tdi. The Disco 2s are the Td5s aren't they?

    Windscreen replacement

Right, according to the RAVE cd you need to use a cutting wire to cut through the glass to body sealant and then re-bond the new glass to the old sealant. That doesn't sound like a job I want to do, can't afford to spend the time on it.... looks like I'm going to have to shell out some dosh.:(

    Windscreen replacement

DIY might be an option. How tricky is it to fit the screen? Back in my mini days I did quite a few using a length of wire to pull the rubber seal past the glass. Would the same trick work on a Disco? (Must admit I've not got around to looking at how the screen is held in yet).

    Windscreen replacement

Nope. Last time I had to swap a windscreen it cost me about £120, (admittedly not on a Disco and a long time ago). So with that kind of a number in my head I decided not to shell out the extra for windscreen cover. Possibly not one of my better informed decisions but there you go!

    Windscreen replacement

Hi, Has anybody got any tips for a good place to go to get a new windscreen? Mine's got a dirty great crack across it an the MOT is looming! The Disco's a '98 300Tdi and I'm near Crewe. I got a quote from Auto Windscreens who said £266. Thinking that that sounded a bit steep, I got on to...

Help!!! Heaters cold on Discovery 300tdi

Hi, can't offer any words of wisdom on your heater problem but the odd squeak issue might be the fan belt. They often make noises that has been described as sounding like "a box of budgies". When it's squeaking spray a small squirt of wd40 onto the alternator pulley, (taking care not to get...

Oh bugger...how easy is it to replace a rear side panel

I had similar damage on a Frontera years ago. When it went for an MOT the tester was in two minds about passing it because the body was pushed in past the edge of the tyre. He let it go in the end after I promised to hit it with a hammer when I got home. Nice chap really that guy! :) Can't...

    Turbo for K Series

Just a wee snippet from another site..... "Associated with the turbo-charger installation are a number of important engineering changes. A special exhaust manifold in cast stainless steel can reliably withstand temperatures in the region of 1000 °C. Uprated pistons and connecting rods are...

    door seals / headlining removal

It's a while since I did mine so I can't honestly remember if there was any glue on the door seals, I don't think there was but I could be mistaken. Either way, my door seals etc went back on without any trouble and haven't moved since. Didn't use anything special to pull it all apart. That...

Help Needed!! Trying to fit steering guard

That would explain it. Don't think I've done it too much harm though, the nut will still go on without having to "persuade" it. 'Tis a bit odd really.

Help Needed!! Trying to fit steering guard

Yep, I spent all afternoon doing exactly that. When the bolt's all the way in it's so loose you can turn it with your fingers. Still won't come out though, a couple of taps get's it to where it stops moving then that's your lot. Having said that I've been trying to get the bolt out without...

Help Needed!! Trying to fit steering guard

Keep at it. Mine started out thoroughly seized in the hole. The heat it up and throw water at it trick got it turning, (thanks Sean). Since then, after mucho hammering, I've got it to move about an inch and a half. It stops dead just after the end of the bolt disappears into the chassis. I'm...

    Discovery Pitfalls

Oh I don't know, it depends what your comparing it with. Compared to a modern rep-mobile you'll need to spend more on repairs. Then again, I managed to get through 7 grand fixing one thing after another on that bloody Frontera I used to have. (Yes, I was being a prat. I let stubborness overide...

    Discovery Pitfalls

Leaking steering boxes are an MOT fail. I didn't know that before I took my old RRC for the MOT first time around and for such a simple looking thing, it can be a pig to swap. Now if I'd given it a good clean and dried it off just before taking it, I'd have saved myself a lot of trouble....;)

HELP !!!!!!Radio interference with my immobiliser

Aye I'll grant you that, what I should've said was..... "...if the signal strength is high enough it will overload any crappy receiver that is close by, even if that receiver is designed to pick up a much lower frequency. " The receivers in immobilisers aren't exactly at the peak of radio...

Mine bolt to the sills and the chassis outriggers. One went on dead easy, the other didn't want to fit between the outriggers. Built on a jig they weren't!
