Hi, Has anybody got any tips for a good place to go to get a new windscreen? Mine's got a dirty great crack across it an the MOT is looming!

The Disco's a '98 300Tdi and I'm near Crewe.

I got a quote from Auto Windscreens who said £266. Thinking that that sounded a bit steep, I got on to Autoglass, they said £680  That was when I nearly fell off me chair!

Cheers,
Al.

Nope. Last time I had to swap a windscreen it cost me about £120, (admittedly not on a Disco and a long time ago). So with that kind of a number in my head I decided not to shell out the extra for windscreen cover. Possibly not one of my better informed decisions but there you go!

Oh WOW do you guys get screwed hard for windscreen replacement! We get a free windscreen every year for free, if you have comprehensive insurance. Just pick up the phone, ask for a new windscreen n the next day it's done for nada. :)

We used to have that.....Insurance companies have got wise to it so theres now a nice excess on most policies.....could be £50 upwards:mad::mad:

DIY might be an option. How tricky is it to fit the screen? Back in my mini days I did quite a few using a length of wire to pull the rubber seal past the glass. Would the same trick work on a Disco? (Must admit I've not got around to looking at how the screen is held in yet).

Right, according to the RAVE cd you need to use a cutting wire to cut through the glass to body sealant and then re-bond the new glass to the old sealant. That doesn't sound like a job I want to do, can't afford to spend the time on it.... looks like I'm going to have to shell out some dosh.:(

why is 300 tdi any easy than a td5 they use the same glue you could do the job your self and its not that hard but you try and find a place that will sell you a screen the last one whe had at work was £150 form a local screen place and he came to us for that a screen of a 200 will fit but it dont have a black band all the way round it this is needed to stop the sun getting to the glue
