    Traction Control Help

We solved he problem, we bought a Range Rover, still the same problems as the Freelander, then we bought a Landcruiser, all problems solved including the urreliabilty of the Landrover vehicles. Stevesub

Freelander Td4 - Hard starting and Emerging smoke

Do what we did - SELL IT QUICK - best thing we ever did. Once our Freelander was out of warrenty, we could not keep up with the bills to keep it going. We bought a 5 year old Rangie, now it is 10 years old, it is going down the road as it has suddenly started to get expensive to keep fixed. We...

    Head Gasget just gone

The head gaskets generaly go around this mileage. It seems that at times a new motor is reqd. Up to you whether you keep it or sell it but don't keep it past another 40,000 miles.

    Are your tyres old? BEWARE!

We use 750/16 skinnies on our Landcruiser and as you say, best everywhere except on the tarmac. Bit life is full of compromises. Even if we had fat tyres on the Cruiser, it would not be much better on the tarmac due to the suspension that would need upgrading to stop the body roll, then it would...

    Are your tyres old? BEWARE!

Not sure what caused our tyres to go but they do get very hot when travelling, especially when the ambiant temp is +40C. Next tyres will not be Bridgestone for the Cruiser even though the Freelander has the Bridgstone road tyres and rapid wear seems to be their only problem - or is it that we...

    Are your tyres old? BEWARE!

Here in Australia we do a lot of miles, usually at 100kph. ie it takes 2 days driving to get from Melbourne to Brisbane and use our Landcruiser for these trips rather than the Freelander for various reasons. The Cruiser is on 750/16 Bridgestone Desert Duellers about 4 years old and recently we...

140K 300tdi - deep desert - what would you do?

We do desert driving in Australia and leave our Landrover at home and use our Landcruiser which is setup for desert driving with water and long range fuel tanks. If you use the Landrover, make use you do the obvious, take plenty of fuel and water as well as 2 or more spare tyres. Also take an...

    Fekkin Greanpeace

Just looked at the Greenpeace site in the 1st post. I notice that they advocate wind power, yet in New Zealand, the Greenies have stopped wind farms becuase they are a "Visual Pollutant" in country side inhabited in the main by cows and sheep. Their logic does not stackup for anything other...

    Wet Boot

Common problem and the dealers should know how to fix it - not sure what the fix is myself, ours was done under warrenty.

Freelander Td4 - Hard starting and Emerging smoke

tarting, soulds like glow plugs. Wer have 2 diesel vehicles (not the Freelander, that is a V6) and if we do not let the glo plugs warm up ffirst, then the engine takes on your charactoristics. Following is frommthe handbook for the TD4 3. Insert the starter key and turn the switch to position...

starting issue - lots of clicking

Could also be the starter motor - most solinoids these days are built into the starter so `be prpeared to dig deep in the old pocket again to keep the Freelander going, we know the feeling and have had re-conditioned starter on our V6 to fix this exact problem.

    uneven rear tyre wear

Get all 4 wheels aligned. We have had this problem of un-even wear on all tyres and had the wheels realigned which seems to have fixed the problem.

    Fitting a winch?

Portable winch is the answer - no extra fittings needed. Use from the rear using the 50mm Hayman RTeese towbar hitch or from the front via a tree protector to your front tow hooks See http://www.4wdworld.com.au/products/portawinch/index.htm for details. Sorry but this is an Australian company...

    Range Rover to Freelander??

Look at the Freelandr forums before you buy. We love our "lemon" Freelander. Definetlly stay away from the 1.8's, V6's can be suspect and the TD4 which are the best are starting to give problems with age. My advice, keep the Rangie. You will not be happy in a smaller Freelander, not as comfy...

    Fuel needle !

Common problem - sender in the tank. We reset the odo every fill and refuel at 400km - easiest and cheapest fix. Not a very good solution on a 4 year old vehicle but there are more urgent problems that have to be paid for before the fuel gauge for power windows that do not work are fixed. Yes...

    Freelander Change Of Name (lemon)

Landrover Freelander - "The Best of British Un-reliabilty" The other Landrover products in my experience are marginally better for reliabilty but still a lot worse than the Japs.

    Exploding sunroof...Please HELP!!

The sunroof operating mechanisim gives problems but never heard of an exploding sun-roof. Maybe a stone hit it and it disintegrated like the old non-laminated windscreens used to do - or any window in a car other than the windscreen.

    Hot starting problems

Thanks for that. We had the sensor replaced a few weeks ago and the problem is fixed. The test book did come up with error codes for the Cam Sensor. Cost too much here in Australia but with a broken leg, I am having to reply on dealers, workshops to look after my vehicles for now.

Freelander HDC - Is this noise normal?

The noise is normal - see our web site to see hwat we have done to our Freelander - and even more that never made it to the web site due to lack of room http://steveandchris.netfirms.com The new web site that has a link from this old one does not have much Freelander stuff on it, only the old...

    Td4 explodes on the M4

I can sympathise but the bank balance is still holding the sale of our Freelander off for a while yet. They are expensive to keep running when out of warrenty and we will be up for a trade-in on something that is non-LR next year me thinks
