    Let it run for a bit it is then.just wondering if they could be flushed out with something like engine degreaser or similar. Without exhaust it doesn't smoke at all which is great as it smoked like hell with the old engine.but put the old exhaust on and its really smokey and just trying to save...

    Quite a bit of old gunky oil.turbo had gone and previous owner just kept on using it... Actually poured out about half a litre.

    Right so changed maf sensor and all seems good.not been on a long run just up and down the lane but definitely feels better so thanks again everyone. Now does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning oil out of the exhaust system as I cant take it for a long run as not mot,d yet.

    Yep. Replacement engine which is a massive improvement over the old.it runs and drives great.when your on the move you dont really notice it .but when you go to pull off it's really obvious. I'll try putting my original maf sensor on and clean up some connections and see how that works.

    Oh yeah .its o4 freelander 2l td4(bmw) It seems to be a pedal travel issue.when you depress the pedal there is no response for about an inch of pedal movement then its revs fine and drives fine.its purely just a dead area of pedal play.

    Sorry to nag but,do I have to disconnect lrd and gearbox to lift engine out or will it separate from gearbox alone and then lift out.

    Just the engine as fingers crossed gearbox etc all good.is it just unbolt from gear box and mounting and pipes and cables etc the separate from gearbox or am I over simplifying things?

    Theres an issue with that,I'm in Wales and we cant even leave our own towns right now...... So looking at delivery options which does limit my search a lot. Luckily no rush,probably take me for ever to get this engine out....
