This is the fuse holder the loom came with. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191988870522

    Alternator wiring

It’s interesting. I replaced the much messed about loom about 20 years ago with new Lucas from Landrover and it has a couple of inline fuses on the larger current lines, not installed by me. Melted fuse image below from today.

    Alternator wiring

Dear all, A note of thanks for your assistance. The new alternator is fitted and putting out a nice steady 14.2v. Sadly the old one had done damage. The main headlights have died. However 2 hours of hunting later I found an inline fuse tucked deep behind the dash on the supply cable and I’m...

    Alternator wiring

Thanks Tottot. I will tape the extra spade out of the way and see how it goes. I’ll be under the car again tomorrow fitting the replacement alternator anyway. Next job is to find out why the series 3 brake warning light is always on. Everything is working on the brakes but haven’t tested the...

    Alternator wiring

Lynall Yes dash light comes on with the key then goes off. Slightly irritatingly the new alternator I fitted is faulty and is over charging (up to nearly 18v) so I have another swap at the weekend.

    Alternator wiring

Tottot Thanks for comming back. The wire wasn’t connected before so jus taped up on the loom. It seemed to work ok with the last alternator. I suppose my concern was that this extra spade might be the battery sensor wire (which I have seen separately on some wiring schematics) but would have...

    Alternator wiring

Your help is appreciated. I have tried to read every thread on series 3 alternators but can’t seem to find the answer. My old Lucas alternator failed so I ordered the replacement ACR 17. The old alternator only used the 3 pin plug euro set on the rear. The new one has space for an extra...

Series 3 smiths snail heater fan

Great resource TS2304. Thank you all for the appreciated assistance. All parts found. Now to get the fan out of the wing :(

Series 3 smiths snail heater fan

Thanks Wildefalcon, Have messaged the ebayer to check it fits. If it’s resolvable for £15 I will be a very happy landy owner. Second point, I tried to find the fan details in the parts catalogue but it’s not there. Is there a second parts book I don’t know about?

Series 3 smiths snail heater fan

Dear all, After a successful day changing oil and flushing the cooling system on the landy, I was on the test drive and the plastic fan blade for the heater literally disintegrated (more like blew up). The fan motor is fine. Since the fans are no longer available, does anyone have a...

    Hot starting - 2.25 Series 3

Just a thought. Have you checked the coil. I have known them crack and when cold work fine but when hot the crack opens and they misbehave. Just a thought.

    Series door tops

All, it has reached that time and the door tops have absented themselves from the vechical bodywork. Rocky Mountain seem to have left the uk for all but the well healed. Advice needed please. 2 questions: Which are best value standard or galv or Ali? (sp galv) or other. What colour. My...

Thanks all, britpart it is (if needed).

    Hard brakes and history

Thanks Rodeo Joe, I didn’t fancy getting that fluid everywhere good excuse for a new part. The question might then be are the dual line replacements from Britpart any good c.£50 or do I need to save up for a now out of stock Lucas one for more like £250? Don’t like taking chances with brakes...

    Hard brakes and history

Kermit_rr, yes the brake pedal returns to position without any issue.
  17. Captain Cavemen

    Hard brakes and history

Thanks all, I have just checked and there is about 1/2- 3/4 inch of loose play (no pressure) in the pedal before it goes hard. I think I will try and take the master cylinder off again at the weekend and check the pedal feel to see if the servo is working (I realise there will be no...

    Hard brakes and history

Rodeo Joe, could you elaborate on the above? I may not have set the servo up correctly I didn’t know there was servo rod adjustment. I am assuming the original was correct, I still have that but can’t see any adjustment unless It’s on the eye end covered by the rubber collar? Thanks

    Hard brakes and history

Thanks Jamesmartin- Interestingly no it doesn’t and that is what lead me to change the servo but still no joy. I can only assume it is either a faulty replacement servo or the issue is further down the line, hence the suspicion of the master brake cylinder.

Thank you yes, when I changed the servo I checked the pedal and it is all moving smoothly.
