What have you done to your Landie today.

As a result of being stranded on the A74 the other day I drained the gearbox oil today to confirm me fears that the 5th gear layshaft bearing is caput😭. The drain plug had a very big glob of stuff on it and the oil had a lovely metalic sheen, especially when I stired it. No big lumps though. The...

What have you done to your Landie today.

PITA indeed. I've waited about 5 months for these seats. If the email response time is any indication, I'd best order myself some fixings. On a plus side, the seats seem good quality and the kids like em. Only 2 seats going in the 2nd row with a cubby box and eventually a diesel heater...

What have you done to your Landie today.

New seats from Exmoor Trim finally arrived last week. Fittings box opened, no nuts, bolts or washers🙄. Ho hum, I tried. Now for the battle of wills over do I wait or do I just order suitable jobbies from fleabay.🤔

What have you done to your Landie today.

Webasto Fuel Burning Heater. It pre-heats the engine on the chilly mornings and means I get instant "heat":D

What have you done to your Landie today.

For the last few days and the next I have been installing a ThermoTop C FBH. I do hope my defender appreciates my efforts :D I cringe at the thought of tallying up what I've spent on it over the last year or so. I've replaced so much, there surely can't be that much left to go wrong.

TD5 non starter after starter motor rebuild

Bit of a delayed follow up on this. All the fuses checked out ok so I pulled the connector from the CCS and cleaned it out. Whilst in the process I found out that the flexi pipe that goes from the wing intake, around the back of the engine and into the filter housing had a hole in it. The next...

TD5 non starter after starter motor rebuild

OK, thanks for that. I'll have a look later. At least I now know its a possibilty. It just seems so odd that it started on the nail every time before I rebuilt the soleniod than zilch after.

TD5 non starter after starter motor rebuild

I have just rebuilt the starter motor solenoid on my 2004 Defender TD5 as I got the dreaded click. Since then, the engine turns over lovely but absolutely no sign of starting. Is it possible that in removing/replacing the starter motor I've ****ted the crank case sensor somehow thus inducing my...

    Halfords, credit where it's due.

Shock horror, I had cause to go into Halfords in Elgin this afternoon to exchange an Impact Driver and Ratchet under their Lifetime Warranty deal. No problems at all. No quibble, argument, not anything but a friendly yep, there you go, have a nice day. I know Halfords aren't people's favourite...

    Organised overlanding trips

That's a really good idea and so simple too.

    Organised overlanding trips

Cheers for the replies, they've given me something to go on. Now there are 4 of us, I'm having a good rethink of my gear. My 'borrowed' tent that my in-laws 'lent' us, whist decent is an absolute pain to put up and pack away. I'm looking at an airbeam yurt style tent. It'll be massive and...

    Organised overlanding trips

Glad you mentioned that. It's something I'd have to seriously budget for as I can imagine it'll be a serious expense no matter where we go.

    Organised overlanding trips

It's a 2 day ferry from Denmark plus whatever it takes to get to Denmark so from where I'll be living, I'll probably have to add another week onto the trip but that's something I'll have to factor in. It's no different to if I decide on Morocco. Still got to get there. I'd just like to know if...

    Organised overlanding trips

I like the idea of the Alps, Scandinavia or Iceland. To begin with at least. As you say, all civilised countries. I think my biggest concern is where you can and can't go off the beaten track, I guess I'm to indoctrinated into the UK ethos of nowhere is accessible. Cost wise for a 2 week trip to...

    Organised overlanding trips

So I've finally reached that point in my life where getting to go overlanding is a real possibility. I've the vehicle, mostly all the gear but naff all idea. Been camping plenty in the UK but never abroad. So I've been trawling the tinternet and there are lots of companies that do organised...

    Replacement Defender Alarm

Edited lol. Pretty sure it ain't pinched, done plenty of history checks an the like before I brought it and managed to export it OK. Got other security stuff, was one of the first things I did. I was always planning on an alarm upgrade but this has just been bumped to top of the to do list. If...

    Replacement Defender Alarm

So the other day I had cause to remove the £*£*£*£*£*££*£*£*£*£*£. Twas then that I found a random plug socket. It was only after that I realised that it was probably for the Alarm that quite plainly wasn't bloody there!!! The central locking still works and the lights flash nicely but that's...
