    DVLA want engine inspected!!!!!

Bungey straps? HaHa. They used tie-wraps, do you think I'll get away with it? No wonder it vibrates - got a part no for the bungey strap, presume Brit*art sell them. Insurance co is aware, just wanted to comply - more fool me.

    DVLA want engine inspected!!!!!

Thanks for that reassurance - thought they didn't like me! Just a 19J change to a 200TDI nothing special, been MOT'd and serviced by two garages with no comments from any of them. I have changed engines in the past - many years ago - no one bothered then. This is where our road tax goes to I...

    DVLA want engine inspected!!!!!

Is this normal? Informed DVLA of a engine swap done by previous owner to update the V5, now they want me to have it inspected and a report written by the AA or RAC to state it has been done correctly! I said I wasn't a member of either orgnisations and they then said it would be ok for a...

    Exmoor Trim experience

I did mine myself following the Exmoor Trim video that came with the kit. I thought it was relatively easy, bit hard on the finger tips doing the base but well pleased with the result. 12 months on and still pleased and wouldn't hesitate to do it to the next Landie I own. Worth doing the backs...

    Front damper removal problem

I'd use a hammer and chisel. Drill the nut first then persuade it to let go with the hammer and chisel.

    Heaters

BTW, the fan switch is inside the instrument housing, work the lever, you can't miss it.

    Heaters

When you are in the engine bay, with the fan on, feel around the box for any air leaks as the heat is supposed to go inside the cab not the engine compartment. Mine had huge gaps around the pipes allowing the meagre hot air to escape before warming my tootsies. I used some foam to seal the gaps...

    200tdi heating/cooling system

On my 200TDi conversion I needed to rewire the temp gauge direct to the sender from the gauge. Original wiring passes through bulkhead and is joined by bullet connector, poor connection on mine. (Do a search on temp gauges reading wrong). Confirmed it was reading ok after finding the correct...

    Pics of Dash Upgrade

I think you have done a great job and the rev counter looks like it should be there. Thanks for showing a picture of the wiring cover. Mine hasn't got one fitted and I wondered what they looked like!

Saw a tv prog where a guy had black powder coat on the wheels followed by silver on the top, end result was a chrome black colour, looked really cool.

    Defenders for under £2500

I recently bought a 1988 Defender 90 for £2k and it had problems. I knew this when I bought it so the learning curve was interesting and it's a Landy so repairs are cheap if you are prepared to do the spanner work yourself. Mine had allsorts of history, this had been changed and that not always...

    temp sender help please

Sorted!!!! Turned out it was the wiring from the sender to the gauge. In the end I just disconnected the original wiring from the gauge and fitted a new one direct to the sender. Happy days... Reads like it should with a PRC 6663 sender Yippee at last. Anybody want a collection of naff senders...

    temp sender help please

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I bought a AMR3321, totally wrong thread size, bought a PRC6663, this one fitted but worse performance as green one as fitted. I am now wondering if my dash has been replaced with a different one, so the temp gauge is not the right one! The symptoms are reads very...

    Turbo dying?

Not long had the Defender fitted with a Disco 200TDi engine. Occasionally on start up there is a tinkling sound and a cloud of blue smoke from the exhaust. After a few seconds, maybe 20 seconds sometimes, the tinkling noise disappears and the blue smoke clears. There is some oil in the...
