    Ominously the aluminum body has no key way or lug just a smooth round surface... Looks like I may be swapping out for an electronic one. :rolleyes:

    @norseman Thanks for the detail, I'll have a look in the morning.... Odd about the cap as I can twist it a good 5deg in each direction which can't be good. :-(

    Now it does nothing... The key switch puts power to the coil and solenoid at the appropriate times, and there's 12.8v to the solenoid direct from the battery.... but no clunk, and no whirrrrrrr Going to take everything back to basics. :confused::(:mad:

    Door latches fitted to newly welded and painted box-section... transmission tunnel now boxed in... transfer case H/L lever reinstated... brakes bled. Now I can't get the damn lump to start! Anyone know any useful/appropriate prayers?

    Whilst the electrics are "in progress", I've done a compression test on the 7 cylinders I can get at.... Is a range from 110-120psi ok for a 3.5v8?

    I've a set of 5 black steel Rostyle rims taking up garage space, free to a good home. Ok condition, I'd be using then if they fitted a D2, but they don't.... RRC, D1, Defender, etc Can deliver if you're in Cheshire, or Manchester/Liverpool area.
