    Discovery TD5 Gearbox R380 - Service?

Ok, here's a few helpful comments then a how to, OK ? Warm oil flows better/easier so when you are changing any oils always try to get them warm before starting to change the oil. With gearboxes and diffs always, always slacken (but do remove immediately) the fill plug. It is not at all unknown...

    Discovery TD5 Gearbox R380 - Service?

Hi Andy, just to be clear, you are talking about the main 5-speed gearbox, not the transfer box or an automatic gearbox ?

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide!

Are you aware that it is possible to buy a compressor repair kit which seems to solve most compressor problems ? There are several sellers on Ebay "BagpipingAndy" for one who sell these kits - which include a new piston ring - and they only cost about £15-20.

Disco II Air suspension – the definitive guide!

Hi davec18, why do you want to know the pressure? The system works on the basis of sufficient air pressure to lift the back end of the vehicle to a predetermined height, not to a specific pressure. Dave.

    Benefits/downsides on removing EGR valve

Hi Nodge, you're right of course, but on TD5's for example you'd be hard pressed to see that the EGR valve is missing, and I think I'm right in saying that it wouldn't show from the OBD socket

ACE red light and ACE pump vibration

Hi GJB, when you say you have the same problems do you mean ACE warning lights and a vibrating valve block? If yes, here's what I would do : 1. have the engine on tickover and check the ACE reservoir to confirm the flow and return is visible ie. a swirling in the fluid of the reservoir. Is the...

Does anyone know how to get the rear door speakers to work??

Hi mate, it was quite a long time ago but I think I just bought reasonable quality speakers of the correct physical size; ref ohmage they are usually only available in either 4 or 8 ohms, just buy two identical units.

Does anyone know how to get the rear door speakers to work??

Hello John, the two loudspeakers on the back door are driven by an amplifier also on the same panel. So, the likelihood is that to diagnose this problem you will need to remove the panel from the back door, then disconnect the wires attached to the speakers and temporarily attach them to a...

auto gearbox issue?, car revs up to 3500 from 1 to 2

Often this is caused by the rear engine crankshaft seal being worn out, it then permits oil to leak out of the engine and into the bellhousing and so it looks like the autobox is leaking.

auto gearbox issue?, car revs up to 3500 from 1 to 2

Hi Sandu, here are my answers to your questions : 1. Land Rover don't make filters of any kind, they buy them in, so buying 'after-market filters' is not a problem; 2. When you buy an autobox filter kit it should come with filter, O-rings and the sump seal. When you say that you plan to "flush...

Is your TD5 fuel gauge not working?

The fuel sender is part of the in-tank fuel pump and if this incorrectly installed it will give inaccurate readings.

    discovery td5 M and S light flashing?

Can I just be clear, I'm not talking about the MAF sensor on the corrugated plastic incoming air pipe; I'm referring to the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor on the actual aluminium inlet manifold. Hope that helps...............

    discovery td5 M and S light flashing?

If you're "going in" can I suggest you do something else? Check the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold. It's not at all unknown for these to be so caked up with black clag that they don't work correctly. Clean off with aerosol brake & clutch cleaner. Takes 2 to 3 mins but deffo helps with the running.

    discovery td5 M and S light flashing?

A friend had the M&S lights coming on intermittently? Checked battery voltage, but eventually found oil in the main ECU plugs. After cleaning and drying thoroughly no more troubles.

Freelander 2 (LR2) Buying advice please.....

Hi GG, thanks very much for the response. As I said I'm familiar with Disco's & Def's which makes me familiar with the hatred of early Freelanders - but I can't help but feel that since Ford was involved things got better - but maybe not ??? Unfortunately not a big seller so it's difficult to...

TD5 EGR Blanking Plate Fitting - My Tips

TD5 EGR Blanking Plate Fitting - My Tips

In my mind there is no doubt, if you install an EGR replacement kit it will include the blanking plate but also you will be able to remove the EGR valve with it's blocking the inlet airflow problem. Remove the EGR, clean the MAP sensor and the ECU plugs with clutch and brake cleaner - and...
