Would a faulty coolant temperature or fuel temp sensor sensor be giving the ecu incorrect data and upsetting the fueling / starting at lower temperatures? It might be worth reading the live data for these sensors.

Could it be that the enngine is running cooler than it should be so maybe a faulty thermostat, seized viscous fan ( running all the time ) or knackered coolant temperature sensor? Have you got access to diagnostics to check some of the above readings?

Thanks for the reply Sierrafery. I will have a look at it in the next few days. As an experiment if I was to rev the vehicle to say 1500 rpm whilst stationary in neutral and then select the low range would I see a change in revs as the ecu adapts to the different throttle response / map?

Ahh good point well made It’s been a long day but thanks for the clarification guys. Do you know if it is possible to change the Hi / Low switch over from underneath the car as we have the symptoms of it being stuck in ‘ low mode ‘ and giving us the wrong throttle response.

Does anyone know if the viscous fan coupling / clutch can be changed on a TD5 or do I have to get a new unit complete with fan blades? If anyone has ditched a known working viscous unit in favour of an electric fan ( or nothing at all ) and wants to sell it please let me know.

Ok thanks, are you able to post a couple of pictures of the Maf and I will try and see if it is the same as the one fitted to my Father in laws TD5 Disco? I would think somewhere on the unit there would be a manufacture date as well. Thanks.

Is the MAF still available? Do you know how old it is? Are you certain that it is a healthy unit and will it fit a TD5 Disco 2 ?
