Looking for a Discovery 200TDi engine

Just a thought - is there any reason that an engine from a RHD would be problematic to put in a LHD vehicle? Any ancillaries mounted on the other side of the engine for example? Just wondering about wiring loom, vacuum pipes, that sort of thing.

Looking for a Discovery 200TDi engine

Yeah this is the thing with eBay - you buy on trust. As I'm in portugal, I'm not up for risking an eBay purchase. I could rebuild it, but I'm not going to. Don't have the facilities. It's with my favoured garage at the moment, and I'm looking to just get them to swap out the engine for me.

Looking for a Discovery 200TDi engine

Hi Hope it's OK to post this here - I don't have enough posts on the forum to allow me to post a Wanted ad in the For Sale section... I'm looking for a replacement engine (ideally complete, will consider bare) for my 93 Discovery 200TDi. I'm in Portugal, and while I've found a few for sale here...

Disco 1 Daft question, probably, re CV kits

Ok thanks. Part numbers are king! Can't purely rely on chassis number...

Disco 1 Daft question, probably, re CV kits

Seems that way. Is this something that LR could have done - fitted an earlier axle during manufacture? I appreciate that it could have been replaced at any time since it was bought, just wondering if LR had a habit of fitting earlier components when building their vehicles. Thanks for your input...

Disco 1 Daft question, probably, re CV kits

Thanks for the info. My chassis number is KA, but this one seems to go up to JA032850. So I have an earlier front axle on mine I take it?

Disco 1 Daft question, probably, re CV kits

Hi all Ok, so I have a 10 spline diff, non ABS. I ordered the correct CV kit from Paddocks (I called them to confirm) but the joint I received is different from the one I removed from the car - see photos below. My parts are on the left, the one on the right is the new cv joint. Am I just being...

    Disco 1 Various electrical issues

Never did replace the fusible links, but a local garage suggested putting an earth cable directly from the battery to the body. Did this and it stopped the headlights flickering when I wiggle the handbrake lever. I've yet to test the other electrical items it was messing with (it's currently...

Disco 1 Daft question, probably, re CV kits

Hi all Chuffed to have got it through the inspection (Portuguese MOT) yesterday, just needing headlight aim adjusting and the battery securing. So the next job is to replace the right hand CV joint - could do with replacing the weeping seals there anyway. My VIN (assuming I'm looking at the...

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Excellent - all back up and running! Took it for a test drive and pulled over to check for any leaks. Water ****ing out from below the header tank, which turned out to be the overflow from the windscreen washer tank which I'd just filled up! At least it was nothing important... Thanks to all for...

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Sorted - got the turbo oil drain pipe completely off this afternoon (28mm I believe, but I used an adjustable spanner). Taking the alternator off helped with access to get some leverage. Cleaned it up, separated the pipe from the union that goes into the block, put the union back in the block...

What size nut is it for the block end? Maybe I could loosen / undo it to give me some wiggle room at the turbo end.

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Very little slack on mine - part of the reason I'm finding it so difficult to get the fecker back in - no wiggle room

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Got I all (almost) back together today. Stumbled at the final hurdle though - the oil pipe from the block to the bottom of the turbo is absolutely refusing to screw back into the turbo - it just spins, occasionally feels like it might be catching a thread but doesn't. Any tips or tricks? If...

Head looks like this - what's your opinion?

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Got the head off today. Only mishaps were a few studs coming out (but not breaking) and one bolt snapping in the thermostat housing. One of the head bolts at the rear was nowhere near as tight as the rest though - wondering if that as the cause of the head gasket blowing. Gaskets on order from...

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

Thanks. And apologies for the daft question, but it is 3 holes you can see on the photo? I only ask as the one on the left is half covered by the cylinder head...

Disco 1 200TDi exhaust blowing from back of head

It's got three notches, as per the photo. So that means I need a 1.5mm gasket? For example - https://www.paddockspares.com/err5263g-head-gasket-1-50mm-3-notch-tdi-elring-oe.html

Thanks. Been doing a bit of research and it looks like it's an easy enough job so I'm gonna do it myself I think. Any other tips will be most welcome!
